Hey. Thanks JaxFlDude. My lights flickered, but they have stayed on to this point.

Sustained winds are now at around 50 mph with gusts up to near 60 currently at my home. The worst still to come through as the eyewall is off Palm Coast currently.

Been out of power here almost two hours now, savor your power! Lol

Looks like there is a steering high at about 32N 70W.
So it should erode that some and possibly get it to go a little more east, not entirely sure though.
Big thing though is this could keep Matthew from weakening as fast as forecasted.

I'm in a suburb of Charleston County, outside of a flood zone and about 20 miles from the coast. Worried about my 15 year old roof the most. While more intensity is not wanted, if the trough pushed it more off of the coast, that might be a better situation for us.

NHC extended Hurricane warnings up the coast all the way up th North Carolina because theoutflow of Matthee as been enhanced by the High northeadt of it not eroding as fast as forecast. It is also possible Matthew may not weaken as fast as forecasted earlier as well.

It doesn't look to have weakened much, although I do believe it is a Cat 2 now (and has been for a while)...has there been any data supporting major hurricane lately?

Yeah I originally thought it would be similar to Galveston 1900 in terms of the death toll. Horrendous.

Thanks Mark for the animation.

It loads fast for me on Storm2k but slower on other sites.

It's definitely needed right now as I sit on this bridge.

Really strong gusts coming straight down the Intracoastal Waterway.

We're in West Ashley very near highway 17. Looks like the storm doesn't want to weaken as quickly as I had hoped. Just hoping no more than Cat 1 winds. Surge is going to be horrendous.

NWS office just released a statement that the storm surge at Mayport on the St. Johns River has now just exceeded Hurricane Dora"s previous record in 1964 . That is incredible!!

Not really. Recon data supports about 85-90 knots very well. There have been some occasionally higher readings well above the surface, but no, not really. However, the core looks good on radar and the pressure is only coming up at maybe 1mb/hr.

Surge at Mayport for Hurricane Dora was 4.4 feet according to a NWS Jax met I just spoke to a few moments ago. Matthew has now exceeded that mark and the height is still rising.
