It looks to me that Bill went inland on the left most border of the cone, but not outside the cone. On the NHC site, under Bill, you can click storm archive, then graphics archive and then you'll be able to see the cone at each previous advisory.

Bill is really tightening up over Port O Connor/Seadrift. The eyewall is just now finally wrapping around the coc...

IMO, with very damp soils, high pw values and the proximity to the gulf, this thing might not weaken very much inland.

So being over Matagorda Island doesn't really affect the storm as far as weakening, right? It might as well still be over water at this point?

Correct, and if you look at radar, Bill is starting to look very impressive..

I imagine it may have to do with the existence of stable air over Deep South Texas, so no storms are going to form there, plus there's a little bit of shear going on, and thus the center is somewhat exposed. While I don't think Bill will strengthen much over East Texas (if at all), it may actually get better organized or maintain good convective organization on satellite much like Hermine did back in 2010.

:uarrow: I'm not sure if I remember right but wasn't there a case of a tropical storm hugging the Texas coast and then strengthening into a hurricane?

It's moving so slowly! That's going to churn up a lot of stuff along the coast.

I thought caught something on one of the local Houston TV stations about a high moving in from the east that could push Bill more westerly. Did I hear that right?

Does anyone get the feeling this is strengthening and that we may never know since there are no more flights?

So was this expected? The Houston mets kept saying, when explaining that this would not be another Allison, that the steering currents were strong and no stall would happen. They were adamant about it. Has something now changed?
