What? The only EPAC storm to have been extremely lucky to have recon while the typhoons in the WPAC are still reliant on dvorak.
2nd to 1979's Super Typhoon Obsolete Tip for record pressure of 870 at 872 and TIES 1961's Super Typhoon Obsolete Nancy's 185 knot for wind speed.
Patricia was lucky she had recon while most typhoons all the way back to 1987 were based solely on dvorak.
Remember Patricia wouldn't be on the list if it had not had recon like most typhoons did since 87.
Patricia was in the right place at the right time.
Too bad WPAC. Bring back recon. We can't rely on old records in the absence of recon while still leading globally.

Using the same ADT version, Patricia had higher ADT's than the any other system though for what it's worth.

Re: EPAC: PATRICIA - Post-Tropical
Hard to believe this was 10 years ago. Pretty much the night we knew a >165 knot tropical cyclone was truly possible and one of the few times (other than Wilma and Milton) we had modern recon into an upper end pinhole system. I spent some time reading this thread over the last few days which was a fun trip down memory lane to the days. I had forgotten how fast expectations had skyrocketed for this late on the 21st once CBs went up in all quadrants despite relatively modest expectations beforehand.

Agreed. This one was for the books. Glad most of us got to witness it in real time.
