Another thing about the easterly trend - it could keep Andrea over water instead of on land off the east coast...maybe that will let the strength hold or increase?

There's still a band wrapped around where the center is, you're saying the strongest winds aren't in that?

By the time the recon gets there she is almost going to be making landfall.
I find it odd that they did not do missions of every 6 instead of every 12 hrs.

I talked about this about an hour ago. I don't understand why Recon didn't get out there at least 3 hours earlier. But, Andrea will be making landfall in about 2 hours or so. Recon getting in there around 2 p.m. or so now basically is too late imo.

Recon flew overland over the marshes of eastern NC during Irene, so maybe they will do it again here?

Just a quick FYI for those wondering - Florida doesn't have tornado sirens, but here in South Florida we have a very thorough lightining detection network and that includes warning sirens at every school field and county park - perhaps that's what was heard this morning...

Might be losing tropical characteristics. Still will be a big rain threat though.

FYI ALL: The sirens that were heard going off in the Treasure Coast area today were part of the normal quarterly test of the FPL warning system for the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant.

I have to agree that it probably wasn't the best day to do it considering the inclement weather in the area. I'm sure some people were caught off guard, confused, and nervous. I'm willing to bet that 911 got a few calls about it.

Squall just passed Fernandina Beach, very heavy rain inside and a bit of wind, perhaps 15mph. Barometer now falling about .2 inches over the past hour.

NWS just posted a flash flood warning for Clay County around Middleburg.

Here is a laugh, my lawn service guy called and said he did not think he could do the lawn today! No kidding.
