Don't know why they upped the wind. Recon barely found anything to support 65 kts an hour or so ago. Pressure continues to rise.

Just trade showers for now. Rainfall directly associated with Iselle is only falling on the big island.

Sustained winds at 59mph, despite it being 6 hours away from landfal.

How will this affect the Mauna Kea Observatory? I'm sure they have taken safe precautions.

Winds in the 40's on the west side of the island, including a gust to 45 mph at the Kona airport. Some funneling going on with the wind direction over on that side.

It's going to make landfall in Hawaii soon, potentially as a hurricane, let's hope it won't be so destructive for them. Prepare, Hawaii!

Hurricanes are an amazing natural phenomena. While many are spiraling pits of evil that kill people or cause devastation, some are tame and stay clear of land.

I wish for you to :Bcool:

Per radar the center appears to be moving slightly south of west - TWC (Brian Norcross) said an hour ago that the center might cross just south of the Big Island, which would be well south of the remainder of the islands if it took that track, so if if if that happens some good news.

Large area of hurricane force wind is located on the north side away from center, if the center going more south than expected that means most of these winds will impact land

I can't tell if it's a south jog or just a wobble.

It's going to be interesting to see whether the frictional differentials between wind going up and over the 13800' peaks of the Big Island versus the easier path of south and around will force the center south of the island. These are mass-scale land effects for which there's no analog in the Atlantic Basin (or in many places in the world for that matter). We shall see.

It has to go south soon then.

ATCF has it at 19.0. South Point is 18.9N.
