Area farther south will slowly see winds lessen has the center passes to their east and winds begin to switch. Palm beach seems to have the highest winds right now.. sustained at 35 gusting over 40.

You have any links to onshore sites with those reports or is that just off shore? Here in NPB, it's been pretty squally for the last half hour

As of now I think Irene has given us in South Florida more weather than Hurricane Floyd ever did, I guess you can say this was an even closer call! Incredible how the NHC's accuracy has improved since then, think about it....in 1999 we were under a Hurricane Watch because of Floyd if I'm not mistaken, now with Irene about as close if not closer and with more weather to offer us....no watches or warnings except for offshore mariners!

Your memory is correct, with regards to the Hurricane Watch for Floyd. At one point, Hurricane Watches extended all the way down to Miami-Dade. Difference from this situation, though, is that at the time the watches were put up, Floyd was forecast to come in very close to Florida; BAMS were showing West Palm Beach landfall; AVN was showing Jacksonville landfall. looks like it will pass just barely east of Abacos islands, maybe a smidgen east of NHC forecast track. I think this would be a good trend for all concerned. Just need for that trough to keep digging and send her on out!

for all intensive purposes... SF should have had TS watches and well warnings put up.. being that well there is a whole lot of convection coming with TS force winds.. lol bad call by NHC in my own opinion ..

They should be for sure.. barrier islands already have sustained 35 gusting over 40 off and on this morning in LAke worth

yeah Irene is passing to your east so the winds probably wont ever get that strong there.. palm beach should see the strongest winds throughout the day.
