93 kt FL winds measured in the AF pass supports an 85 kt intensity. Given the lower SFMR intensities, I would put it at 80 kt.

been a busy day for GRIP (NOAA, NASA, And Air Force)

Pretty much Earl has been covered from 45kft to surface and ALL quads!

**Note image of flights all of the flights since 12z today** **two AFRecon Flights.. TWO NOAA P-3's, GIV NOAA49, NASA DC-8, (GV was a shuttle mission)

Closed eyewall probably means rapid deepening is about to get underway, although the 36 nautical mile width may keep it from getting explosive.

SFMR is totally on the fritz ...

108 knots flight (111 knots 10-second wind) and SFMR says 28 knots at the surface.

I noticed the hercules taking off from st. Croix...it looks like they're going to be under the gun there in a little while. Where else can they land if they're bingo on fuel and such?
