True, but when most or all of the weather is to the north of the center (in this hemisphere), then it's already made the transition...

Bermuda is in much better shape than a couple of days ago, but they still have many hours of enduring winds at ts force and above. It ain't over 'til it's over. They have many more hours to go.
Stay safe all. Our prayers are with you!

Looking at the radar, appears that the storm will pass just to the west of Bermuda. Radar presentation of Igor looks horrible. Most of the weather looks to the west and northwest of the eye.

Yes, and per the math (16 mph/115 miles), that would indicate that the center would pass near the island an hour or two after sunset...

Per what you mentioned about the radar presentation it does appear to have already made a transition - I'm sure the next TCD will mention this in some way...

Well, time for the Dolphins game (lol),

Still clearly a tropical cyclone (at 1105Z) because the warm core is still intact--even in the upper levels, but the strength of the warm core has diminished:

Yes, but with all due respect that was 7 hours ago - much has changed since then...

Frank, we have people here that live in Bermuda, and I can't believe how insensitive you are being. I guess Frances is but a short memory for you here in south FLorida. The winds for hours on end were brutal.

Here is a report from the island: BELCO has confirmed that its repair crews are standing down. There are 7,000 homes without power now.

Artist,

My apologies for that remark, but in fact have been very worried about everyone there - even Jim Cantore looked stressed yesterday, which isn't like him, but he did seem to look and sound better this morning after it became a Category 1...

When I mentioned the game in slight humor, it was because my own feelings were very hurt by the earlier poster who said that he wished the next hurricane to pass directly over my house and was my attempt to make less of his comment, so again my apologies but was rocked sideways by his hurtful remark since nothing I posted called for that response, and sincerely hope that you and all there are well - certainly, as a Catholic I offered up my daily sufferings at Mass this morning for everyone on your island, since as we are told that carries great merit before God...

Take care,

Frank

Still weakening, now 70 kts per the FTP. Also, with reaching 65.9 west, could hurricane force winds just miss Bermuda after all? Of course, it might not really make much of a difference anyway, but still....

Can I rephrase what I said in my previous post then? Hurricane gusts are being recorded, but will the sustained hurricane winds stay just off the island? Unlikely to make a difference, I know, but still worth noting.

After Bermuda, eastern Newfoundland could see some direct impacts from what will be a powerful extratropical Igor. It does seem that Igor still has a westerly component and it is possible for the sustained hurricane force winds to miss Bermuda although I don't believe they will because of how far they extend from the center.

BELCO reports approx 16,000 without power, since they have approx 35,500 customers, about 50% of the island

The only live stream I can currently find is HERE. Look out beyond the harbor. It's definitely getting uglier.

HurricaneTrack's live stream shut down, at least for now.

Due to massive size of windfield, and the forecast for the storm to begin a nne or ne motion tonight, it would seem sustained hurricane winds will likely be experienced on Bermuda....thankfully, sustained Cat 1 winds on an island with very stringent building codes will likely cause more cosmetic damage (trees, power lines, signs/awnings) than building structural damage.

Current forecast track shows the storm making its closest approach to Bermuda in about 6 hours.

Results for Bermuda (32.37N, 64.68W):
The approximate Closest Point of Approach (CPA) is located near 32.6N, 65.6W or about 55.2 miles (88.8 km) from your location. The estimated time of when the center of the storm will be at that location is in about 6.1 hours

So is the Bermuda Sports..just died about 5 mins ago....and then came back up. With reports of half the island without power it may be only a matter of time....make sure you have your speakers up.... :double:

Looks like the worst has passed (insofar as the winds are concerned)
