this system has never received a tropical classification

No surprise.. One of the most questionable calls I have seen but, a remote tropical threat to Florida made them pull the trigger..very poor organization from the getgo..

you're right but Dvorak works with the shape of the storm in satellite images and in satellite images it looks subtropical

ok, I found your county and clicked on Bald Head Island as I remember you saying something about a bridge closing during the last storm up that way, so hope this is pretty close to you-
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... tType=text

you have a flash flood warning, and a wind advisory as the 2 major things to watch for at this point.

Well if he had to worry about a bridge closing, it wasn't Bald Head. They only have access by ferry, no cars (other than emergency and contractors) allowed. Bald Head is in the mouth of the Cape Fear River, South of Wilmington.

They were flying very close to Cuba; maybe they were forced to land for mojitos and a good cigar. (j/k) Really hope everything is ok with them.

looks like the Wilmington are of NC is dealing with lots of flooding. They have opened up some shelters. I posted the article in the Impact thread
My thoughts and prayers go out to all. I know you have been hit with so much rain before this, and now this is just adding insult to injury.

I really don't know what those models are seeing! Maybe they are under figuring the strength of the cold front and thus keeping the environment more condusive for development. However, it seems to me that the enviroment is getting less condusive to support what the models are seeing and that perhaps is why the NHC has backed off of it? IM

No surprises here. We have a sheared tropical storm headed north across Florida toward North Carolina. You can see the LLC just north of Cuba without much convection on the west side. Could tighten up some over the gulf stream but I doubt it will reach hurricane status.

I, too, send my best wishes to all of you Carolinians. Regardless of what the models are saying, you are still getting a LOT of rain on top of saturated ground and that can be much more dangerous than TS winds. I sincerely hope this "storm" keeps moving further east and takes some of that rain with it. It's clearing out now here in East CFL, so I can breathe a sigh of relief, but I will keep monitoring the thread to see how you all are doing. Take care, be safe.

Absolutely. My prayers go out to all in the Eastern North Carolina area which is being impacted severely by flooding rains.

After Tropical Storm Fay in 2008 which dropped 14 inches at my home here in NE FL, I can certainly relate to what our neighbors up there are experiencing. I just hope that this system moves out quickly over these next 24 hours or so.
