its about time...

BTW -- the GFS 12Z should be discarded because it had Hanna lingering near Haiti for about 24 hours before moving northward.

By the GFS showing it stuck down in Haiti for another 24 hrs causes the GFS to think that they is a greater weakness when IKE approaches from the east and maybe this is why it shows IKE recurving off to the Northwest. If this is the case than the 12Z needs to be discarded.

I really appreciate wxman's model graphic and we'll obviously be prepared. Does anyone have an opinion on strength at landfall? Anyone think stronger than Cat 1?

if everything stays as is with the forecast, would it be safe to assume that a hurricane watch will be issued from the ga/sc border area up to the nc/va border area sometime late tonight or tomorrow?

Heck, given the uncertainty up till now, they might extend a watch down to the St. Mary's River.

Talk about an ill-defined center - based on the last vortex message coordinates (a few minutes ago), I really can't see one, save for a few low cloud lines:

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/flt/t2/loop-vis.html

the TCD mentioned the center is "less well defined" - that's for sure...

I can see the center (eye) with no troubles now. I did earlyer gatorcane told me where to look and yep it was right there.

I would like to tank the ones that have stayed with Hanna. The people in Ga SC and NC would like input from all. But once Fl seem to be out of the picture they go else where. So to the ones that are here to help us with Questions and what not Thanks a lot

There are plenty of solid posters in the GA, SC, NC, AND VA area. Many that can add some input, not pros, but pretty good.

I am thinking 80-90 kts somewhere along the NC coast. Upper level pattern looks really good for intensification as it begins the recurve.

I feel the need to ask this too...

I may be making a trip to Eastern NC for the weekend to visit my parents. My Mom has been fighting cancer for the past 2 years, and now in addition to the tumor, the doctors think she may have leukemia. If I don't get down this weekend, it may be mid Oct before I can see her again. I'll also have to take my kids too. Just trying to work out in my head if the storm has the potential to be too dangerous to make the trip.

Thanks in advance for any insight any of you may have that could help me make my decision.

90 kts would be about as high as I would want to see it get, though I'd rather it stay as is and just bring us rain.

Another point towards strengthening would be she will be riding the Gulf Stream if she gets close enought to Fl. Friendly upper air and hot water for a tenacious strom could be bad.

We're here for you folks to the north - as you know, not everyone lives in FL (though it seems that way during rush hour)...

I'm looking for all the info I can get too. There is normally a lot of good info to find here. I am curious when any watches would go up.

Cape Lookout National Seashore staff in Harkers Island have implemented the emergency weather evacuation plan due to the approach of tropical storm Hanna.

A mandatory evacuation of all visitors from the seashore islands will be implemented for this storm. The park will be closed to all visitors and all services will be shut down beginning on Thursday, September 4, at 5:00 PM, until further notice.

Thanks for the kind words and prayers. I've got a 7+ hour drive from Western, SC. They live on the mainland facing Harkers Island. There are 2 inlets between them so storm surge is usually not an issue. The last hurricane we rode out was Alex in 2004, and it wasn't bad at all. It's looking like Hanna may be similar in strength.

Thanks again!
