The 12Z CMC shifted much farther east with Hanna, keeping the system well east of Florida. I'm not sure about the Euro - haven't checked it since early today.

Offical NHC track now shows this making landfall at 85kts. Its one of those set-ups though where if shear eases off in time then we are looking at a stronger hurricane then that. Personally I think the GFDL may not be far off in terms of possibe strength of Hanna but we shall have to see I suppose.

It's interesting to see that they have Hanna moving due north after landfall.

Georgia hasn't been hit by a hurricane since 1893...

Ugh. Not happy to see SE FL in the cone. Sigh. I really was hoping the storm would head north as a non-destructive rainmaker for GA and the Carolinas which so badly NEED rain. Go away Hannah. We just had Fay and Lake O. has risen nicely. We don't need you!

Slightly off topic, this is just a crazy day in the tropics. I was looking at the sat. image of the Atlantic basin (which doesn't even show 99L and probable Josephine-to-be)

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/tatl/avn-l.jpg

It brought a question to mind.
What is the record for number of active storms in the Atlantic basin at one time? Can anyone let me know?

Oh, I'm just going by what I see, but doesn't this new track keep it further away from FL?

By the coordinates, the previous and current TPC tracks are identical in how close they project Hanna coming to Florida. The probability of tropical storm or hurricane force winds are about the same for all locations from about Miami through about the SC/NC border.

I believe the record is 4. Last time that happened was 1995, when I think (?) it was Humberto, Jerry, Iris, and Karen all at the same time. We could easily tie that record again today or tomorrow.

Yep recon finding pressure still lowering a touch but your not gonig to see much development of the inner core till the shear eases of yet further, its just the sheer power of the convection thats probably strengthening Hanna right now IMO.

Deltadog, I think the next 2weeks are going to be made, 2 more landfalling US hurricanes in that period?!

that goes to show you how very warm and condusive those waters are..........all she needs is about 5 knots of less shear and she will pop an eye IMO.

Savannah was hit in 1947, I think, after one of the first hurricane seeding experiments.

Quote of the day in my book. Thanks for the comic relief (although it's not really funny but it's the best laugh I've had in a couple of days).

Deltadog, so glad to see you will be watching over us. :D I trust your judgment immensely and with Hanna and Ike on the horizon, it is comforting to know that one of us, will be on top of things.
