Impressive indeed, there is some northerly shear from Gustav...but I tell you sure looks like an anticyclonic flow is trying to build in especially for Hanna's southern side.

I'm wondering if Hanna gets stronger the ridge gets pumped up forcing her more westerly rather than that sharp NNW turn.

Didnt you say last night that this was a FL or NC event only and GA and SC wasnt likely. How can you say NC and leave out SC when they are so close? SC gets many storms.

Now down to 987. I believe it'll be 70-75 mph when it is all said and done with recon

The strongest winds in the NW quadrant were 59 knots FL. I think the NE quadrant may have stronger winds.

if anybody has a pic of Hanna from 24 hours ago there is a HUGE difference. Despite shear she is wasting no time.

This won't be the only time we have seen system rapidly intensify (not true RI of course) near and over the Bahama flats where SSTs are in the mid to even some areas of mid to upper 80s.

so nice to have recon to confirm what i thought all nite

the pressure and winds are exactly what i thought they would be based on providencialas mb reading (993-995 mb since 2 am last nite)

only thing i am surprised about is how far south the center is

ALSO gustav outflow channnel is going right over hanna and that seems to have had an effect (negative) on her convection in the last few hours, will watch this trend because this is impacting very high northwest shear over the system, when this cuts off this could ramp up to a MAJOR unless new shear encroaches on her

remember where this storm is folks, it is in bathtub water with some of the highest TCHP in the atlantic, and also capable of supporting a cat 5 (not calling for that ) but those are the facts

I think so. I'm not one to knock NHC but I think they have played it way to conservative this year. Both Stacy and Avilia says it looks stronger than what they listed in advisory and indeed it is. I've been saying since early this morning that this is likly a high end TS or 75 mph Cat. 1

A warm spot in the convection, maybe an eye.

Once again, please interpret for me what a pressure of 985.6 mbs means to me the layman.

I cannot emphasize enough how much this website has meant to me over the years. My many thanks to all.

I'm all for not creating panic but this is on our doorstep no excuse for Avilia not to have bumped up the winds higher.

The lowest the pressure, the stronger the winds (most of the time). This pressure is usually associated with very strong tropical storms and minor hurricanes.

Drop in the "eye" of 986mb (winds were missing)

There should be a special advisory soon but the question is whether they'll announce Hurricane Hanna or high end Tropical Storm Hanna.

And yes Hurakan, there is the very unsettling look of eye-forming going on.

If they find winds to support its low enough to be high end TS or minimal Hurricance.
