I am surprised that they are going to base after only one pass.

I'll keep monitoring though, but only post if they go back to at least 650mb. It is a long way back to Miami, but I wonder why they aren't leaving the plane in St. Croix?

If they're going home, they must have equipment trouble. Can't see them leaving otherwise.

Agreed...up to about 1909Z they were down about 12500 then a right turn and immediate start of climb.....now looks to be joining the normal air route back towards SoFla at about 25,000 which is normal long range cruise level for a turboprop.

I guess it was just a rushed resources flight. Hopefully we will get a full recon plane in the storm sometime tonight.

we'll find out when the aircraft gets in why one pass......

and yes all 53rd WRS aircraft are at Homestead... we had to evac from Keesler because of the potential for a very high crosswind component for t/o and landing.

you are close... normal prop cruising altitude is 25,000ft (FL250) for us its FL230B240 (23,000ft to 24,000ft in the block.... ATC has those levels reserved for us because we tend to fly at 400mb...23,600ft)...sometimes less, sometimes more... it just depends on what we request for a final altitude.

Thanks Pojo....I'm sure the crew is disappointed at having to return early but then again....they will be on ground before sunset which is always a good thing.

This is one of the worst times to be only getting in one pass for Gustav that is going bonkers. I'm anxious to hear what happened.
