At 130 AM AKDT the NWS in Anchorage canceled the volcanic ash advisory. Although at this time the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and Elmendorf AFB are still reporting volcanic ash in hourly advisories.

Alaska Aviation Weather Unit still lists the entire Cook Inlet region as being under SIGMET.

alaska_avo
So we've gotten several questions about why we don't see lava at Redoubt: At Augustine and from earlier eruptions at Redoubt we've seen a pattern of explosive eruptions prior to dome-building. We likely had dome-building early in the eruption, but then it was blown away. There is still a chance we'll see lava yet. Sometimes it explodes early to "clear its throat" of old rock, sometimes it's because it's got a lot of pressure build up. If the vent is clear and the pressure let off, then it's easier to allow the magma to flow to the surface. (now returning to the automated updates!) about 6 hours, 9 minutes ago from Twittermail

The repeating earthquakes that started at 23:52 AKDT have ceased. Seismicity is relatively quiet at this time.Ash fall has decreased in the Anchorage area, and will likely continue into the late evening hours as the cloud passes over the area. An ashfall advisory remains in effect until 1 am Sunday 3/29. For updated ash fall advisories, refer to the National Weather Service Redoubt Coordination web page about 5 hours, 8 minutes ago from Twittermail

Talked with my sister who lives in Knik, right across the inlet from Anchorage. She said there was a layer of ash covering the snow. She thinks the ash will aid in the snow melt and provide some fertilizer for the grass this summer.....MGC

alaska_avo We are re-analyzing the event reported as an explosive eruption occurring at approximately 23:14 AKDT (7:14 UTC). An episode of stronger tremor at the volcano was in progress when the seismic signal from a M5.4 earthquake near Kodiak Island passed through the Redoubt area causing the tremor amplitude to appear to increase quickly. Radar did show a cloud top above 20,000 ft above sea level at approximately the same time. about 1 hour, 20 minutes ago from Twittermail

alaska_avo There was a small ash emission beginning at 09:44 A.M. AKDT up to about 20,000 feet. A tremor signal was recorded on the seismic network at the same time. AVO will attempt to overfly the volcano this afternoon and make observations and assess activity. about 1 hour, 23 minutes ago from Twittermail

alaska_avo There was a small ash emission beginning at 09:44 A.M. AKDT lasting for about 5 minutes. This event produced a plume to about 27,000 feet that is moving slowly to the northeast. The ash plume does not appear to contain a significant amount of ash. Please refer to the National Weather Service Redoubt coordination page http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/volcano.php for more information about ash plume trajectories. No ash fall advisory has been issued for this event. AVO will attempt to overfly the volcano this afternoon and make observations and assess activity. about 38 minutes ago from Twittermail

alaska_avo Beginning about 10:50 this morning, seismicity and web camera images indicate fairly continuous emission of ash from the summit of Redoubt. NWS radar indicates a maximum height of this ash to be about 20,000 feet above sea level. Please refer to the National Weather Service Redoubt coordination page http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/volcano.php for more information about ash plume trajectories. alaska_avo Over the past twelve hours, ash emissions at Redoubt Volcano have become more frequent, but lower in altitude than during the highly explosive events of the past week. A continuous ash plume has been observed in web camera, satellite and radar images, and by pilots. These plumes vary in their intensity and have generally been at low altitude (less than 20,000 feet above sea level). Occasional, short lived events have produced ash clouds that rise as high as 27,000 feet above sea level. Ash fall from these events is currently not likely to reach population centers in the Cook Inlet. Please see the National Weather Service Redoubt coordination page http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/volcano.php for the latest ash fall information. about 2 hours, 11 minutes ago from Twittermail

alaska_avo Seismic activity and webcam views suggest that ash production has diminished over the last hour. alaska_avo Webcam views show a steam-rich plume at ~15-20,000 feet that contains varying amounts of ash. Winds at that altitude are heading NE from the volcano. Seismicity continues to show small, discrete events. For information concerning ashfall advisories go to http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/volcano.php A regional earthquake south of Kodiak was visible on the webicorders at 19:28. about 9 hours, 23 minutes ago from Twittermail

alaska_avo At 23:26 AKDT Redoubt sent an ash plume to 25,000 ft asl. The plume headed east and dissipated over Cook Inlet. Strong thermal anomalies suggest a fresh dome is growing at the surface. For information concerning ashfall advisories go to http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/volcano.php about 6 hours, 5 minutes ago from Twittermail

alaska_avo Tremor episodes and small discrete earthquakes have been observed in the past hour. For information concerning ashfall advisories go to http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/volcano.php about 5 hours, 10 minutes ago from Twittermail

alaska_avo Seismicity at the volcano has been low, but remains above background level. Weak tremor and small discrete earthquakes have been observed in the past hour. alaska_avo Continuous low level emissions of steam, volcanic gases, and ash continue at Redoubt Volcano. Seismicity consists of volcanic tremor and occasional discrete earthquakes. Satellite images from this morning show a broad layer of volcanic haze extending east of the volcano over the Kenai Peninsula, the Anchorage Bowl, and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Please see the National Weather Service Redoubt coordination page http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/volcano.php for the latest ash fall information. about 30 minutes ago from Twittermail
