An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale shook parts of Venezuela, Sucre on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 07:19:30 UTC (03:19:30 AM local time), but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The quake struck at about 10.591°N, 64.166°W with a depth of 30 km set by location program. Its epicenter about 15 km N from Cumana, 80 km NE from Barcelona, 100 km W from Carupano and 305 km E from Caracas, Venezuela, reported by U.S. Geological Survey.

Sucre is the constitutional capital of Venezuela or officially known as Bolivia. Located in the south-central part of the country, Sucre lies at an altitude of 2750m (9,000ft). Its lower altitude gives the city a warm temperate climate year-round.

In 1997 at least 36 people were killed on when an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale jolted eastern Venezuela.
