If you look at the attached loop it does look that way. IMO

All the porches have out their patio furniture and wind chimes still. That was what I remembered most vividly from evacuating from Rita- the absolute silence of all of the wind chimes in the complex. That and the utter inability to get a parking spot in the garage. Everyone wanted their spare cars up on the second and third floors. This afternoon I had my pick of spots. I feel fortunate that all our windows look out over a major street, so even if patio furniture gets loose in the complex we don't ahve to worry about it winding up coming through our glass doors.

That said, I understand that this wasn't broadcast on the news this morning? (I don't watch network television so i wouldn't know) If that's the case then there will be a lot of prep rushing to completion when people run home after work.

It's not a life/death situation if folks treat the wind and water with respect, but i remember watching garbage cans go rumbling down the street in Allison- at the time it was hilarious- now all I think about are my pretty glass doors =D

Obs are coming in very slow, but it would appear that the 48 mph SFMR peak surface wind so far was just in a squall, but well away from the center.

I tell ya, this sure is beginning to look more and more impressive. Still looks to be a drift, but using radar is always a bit deceiving.

Here in Beaumont, we are having a nice break from the rain, but I am watching it move inland. One of our local meteorologists who is excellent in predicting these storms mentioned a few days agao this was something to watch. Last night he said it would definetely affect the area. but I think we all might be surprised at the impact Humberto might have since it developed so quickly and we had not had much time to react. I can deal with the winds but 10" of rain will be horrible. They are having city meetings in Beaumont this afternoon. Well, we will just sit back and see what happens.

Later,
J

Assuming SFMR is correct, about 65 mph surface wind. But since flight level winds are low and that was measured in a squall with 1.5 in/hr rain rate, probably not representative of storm.

The convection around the center is building. Looks like a slow NE motion begining, that would keep it over water longer so it might allow a little more development.

On the Sat.images it does look like this system is starting to ingest some slightly drier air from Texas, a little dry slot starting to show its hand on the Sw side of the area of fairly deep convection near the center.

Drop that corresponds to an ob just after the end of the last set, shows 27kt surface winds/1010mb out of convection in NE quad.

a relocation to the ENE could by it more hours over land since the upper texas coast is angled sw/ne.

on second thought what he (nimbus)said :uarrow:

SFMR has found 58kts, as well as 52kts and 48kts, all in NE quad convection just ouside of center. It'll be interesting to see if they deem them representative . . . but I think they have to go at least 50kts because of the length of those readings . . .

I would think it would be unrepresentative of the intensity of the Humberto given it was just an invest a few hours ago. I'm not sure how it go through that significant intensification in a couple of hours. Anything is possible though and the NHC might be aggressive on the intensity given it is so close to land.

Very high winds but the flight level winds are only about half as strong as that so they will probably be discarded Windrunner, the 58kt reading was twice as high as the flight level reading!
