I have to admit this is an amazing turn of events considering where we were 24hrs ago. I was thinking to myself earlier today that based on the rate of strengthening we were seeing it would be possible for Humberto to reach minimal hurricane status if it tracked more ne to nne than forecast. I know the area along the cast east of High Island isn't too populated but I hope that word of what's going on right now can be given to those isolated communities in its path (I assume that some went to sleep thinking Humberto would remain a moderate TS). 80mph may not be Katrina like but for mobile homes it's bad and with the wet soil from all the rain this summer it won't take much to bring down trees!!!

I'm assuming you mean right on the coast because it's pretty populated over here!

A lady in Sabine Pass called into KFDM a few minutes ago and said that the winds were strong and she could hear stuff flying around outside. She said that people went to bed thinking there was a tropical storm out there, but not expecting what they're getting.


So far, so good, here. Just rain and not much wind... looks that will be changing soon though.

This is why the tropics are soooo unpredictable. I mean, yall were expecting a 50-60mph TS and instead yall are getting a 85-95mph hurricane. I just feel like a few things could and should have been done better to warn people a bit better.

Getting pretty bad in Fannett (Between Winnie and Beaumont, south of I10).

Just lost my daughter's swingset (folded over) and my anemometer just blew over. No more wind readings here.

Power keeps dimming, won't be long before it's out, I'd guess.

The crazy thing is that none of the national outlets besides TWC are covering this.

There wasn't enough time to get the hype machine up and running on this. Even last night CNN barely gave it respectable coverage during the Situation Room. I don't think FOX did much either last night.

Well, you can't exactly warn for a hurricane when there is no hurricane yet, and by the time it became apparent it could become one, it was too late to issue hurricane warnings (no time to take appropriate action). There was no indication this rapid intensification was occurring until recon got there.
