I am here to tell you that a deepening hurricane is, in my experience, vastly different than one that is steady and certainly one that is weakening. The horror of this at night will be just unbearable. Anyone who went through Andrew's core can attest to that, I am sure. Wow, what a sight. I would love to have an RM Young anemometer there mounted on a 10 meter concrete pole. No such luck.

Why didn't you consider coming to the Yucatan to chase this? Would be great for another DVD.

does anyone know how long the sat blackout lasts? I think it is like 2 hours away from blackout and was wondering when it will come back. I am hoping it will be up for landfall.

We'll have to rely on recon. and Cancun radar to wobble-watch this thing ashore.

That wobble just corrected back west on previous track.
That person in Chetumal is definitely going to be close.

Track is pretty much grooved right now. Right over the top of Majahual at intensifying category 5. The little village will be wiped out. Thankfully the notices all say the Mexican government already evacuated the low-lying seaside village.
I'm with the red IR ring callers right now. This is really intensifying in an intensification burst. I would be surprised to hear of anything less than 165-70mph conservative.

Re: Major Hurricane DEAN: (11 PM page 299) Discussions, Analysis
Do we have any lightning detection data from that part of the world? I recall that during Katrina and Rita's rapid intensification cycles, you would actually get a ton of lightning in the eyewall signalling violent updrafts contributing to the RI. Would be interesting to see that taking place here in Dean as another proxy suggesting an exploding storm.

It appears that the floor is droping out with this system. This thing is exploding. Also because of the higher convection gets the conveciton to the surface easlier. I think you can use .9 reduce again. So this could already be close to 170 mph from last recon data. I would be suprized to find less with this recon run.
