I know many members will ask - who is Dorothy Hamill?

She won the Gold Medal for Women's Figure Skating in 1976 Winter Olympics. She became America's Sweetheart! She is my favorite skater, hands down. Always has been. I even had her haircut once.....

Hamill will miss some of the "Broadway on Ice" tour while she undergoes treatment

BALTIMORE, Maryland (AP) -- Former Olympic gold medalist Dorothy Hamill is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.


Dorothy Hamill says the prognosis is favorable.

Hamill said in a statement Friday that she is being treated at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins.

The prognosis is favorable, but the 51-year-old Hamill said she will miss some of the "Broadway on Ice" tour while she is having treatment.

She hopes to rejoin the tour in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where the tour stops on January 16-17.

With her bright smile and bubbly personality, Hamill became America's sweetheart when she won the gold medal in the 1976 Olympics.

Girls across the country flocked to their hairdressers to copy her trademark wedge haircut, and a Dorothy Hamill doll came out the next year.

Hamill also was a three-time U.S. champion and won the world title in 1976. She retired shortly after, and joined the Ice Capades in 197

I'm glad to see that her prognosis is favorable. She must've caught it early.

I loved her. She really is a sweetheart and I remember watching her winning performance in the Olympics.

I also can't get over she's 51! *GULP*.

my sons fiances mom was recently diagnosed and she starts chemo or radiation one (not sure which) on the 10th of this month.

That puts your future daughter in law in a high risk category. She can be tested to see if the gene was passed on to her. A word of caution.....purchase insurance before any testing is done. Breast cancer medical costs are enormous. For more info visit komen.org website.

I remember that years summer olympics in Montreal. That was Nadia Comenicis year. But I do remember Dorothy Hamill. I wish her the best.

I can testify to the survival, at least in terms of my Sister-in-law. She is now 19 years post surgery and cancer free. Dionne, still keeping you in the prayers.

lol I remember how everyone wanted her haircut after she won the gold! I hope she pulls through everything.

It is possible to survive breast cancer. Early detection is key though. As Mary and Kel may remember, my sister was diagnosed in August, level 1. Her prognosis is EXCELLENT. A perfect example of having those mammies grammed each and every year.
