I always get a ton of e-mails of these companies to say you will get a lot of money working at home with their programs or by typing or doing surveys. Most of them you have to pay a certain amount of money. I have never believed in any of them. I always think it's a possible scam. Nonetheless, today's world is so dominated by computers that some of these programs may be telling the truth. Do you know any "work at home" job that really works. I mean, not that it will make a you a millionare but that offers a part-time job and an extra income.

Stay at home jobs are so attractive that they don't have to be advertised. Any email ad is a scam. Not a possible scam, but a 100% bona fide scam.

The best thing to do is call companies and ask if they have opportunities that could be done from home. One of the biggest at-home employers in the US is JetBlue. A lot of their ticket agents are stay-at-home moms or dads.

Many companies are moving away from the call center approach. It's much cheaper to just give their employees a laptop and let them work in bed than to maintain a building.

I too wanted to find a legit, stay at home job. What I have learned is most are jobs people have held in offices and over time, the boss allows them to work at home. In other words, a stay at home job doesn't just plop in your lap. The other legit job I've known about is medical transcribing. First you have to attend classes and become certified. Then you have to have a job in an office, building experience, etc. Then those in office transcribing jobs truly are offered to employees out of their home but again, you have to first have that in-office job lined up first and demonstrate you can do the work. You have to like to type also.

I wracked my brain trying to come up with the perfect stay at home job but in the end, I went to work part time for a school district. I have a great schedule.

I hope what I've learned along the way helps you some. Most stay at home job ads you see listed are scams. Especially if a local phone number isn't listed. A dead giveaway, run!

PS - I will tell you my brother stills say my perfect at home job should have been making caramel popcorn. I began making it for xmas treat bags for family and friends, several years ago and now I'm known for this recipe. I found it in a magazine. Each year my brother pops a piece in his mouth and says - Mary, this is your part time job! Of course you'd have to have lots of time on your hands, some type of permit and keep your pets away. My Golden just salivates hoping a stray piece falls to the floor. When it cools on the table, I put her in another room, just to be safe, she has never gotten up on the table (too skiddish to do so) but if she ever did, she'd get sick on popcorn. So that's my tip to you - it's possible to make it and sell it (local women bake bread and cookies for a deli but I wonder how much money they actually take in, after ingredients, energy (oven) and labor?)

My neighbor works partly at home as a 9-1-1 operator. Not sure what she gets paid though. She does get paid.

You could always start a business buying wholesale lots of "junk" and selling it piecemeal on ebay. I used to do that. You won't make a fortune, but you can do pretty well for a few hours a day. If you set it up right you never even touch the merchandise.

If you want to make more money, there are so many more options outside of home that the convenience of working from home is not worth it. Some people can make millions from home, but it's not that easy to do.
