Parental consent is required for a young girl to get a tattoo or to get her ear pierced or to receive an aspirin in school! These are sensible measures to protect children.

A young girl cannot have any type of medical procedure like tonsils removed - but she CAN have an abortion in 25 states!

In the remaining 25 states, there are laws in effect that require at least one parent be notified or give consent before a minor can obtain an abortion.

And these laws are being avoided with a loophole big enough to drive a Mac truck through.

Here's what happens.

Many teenage pregnancies result from sex with adult men. Many of these men are subject to statutory rape charges. Knowing this, they are pressuring young girls to obtain abortions without their parent's knowledge.

It is as easy as transporting the child across state lines to circumvent state parental consent requirements.

This is plain wrong and there is a solution.

The Child Custody Protection Act introduced by Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-18) in the House and Senator John Ensign (NV) in the Senate would end this despicable practice.

Good for them.

This is, by far, the one issue that I am so Conservative about, it's not even funny. If it's going to remain legal, at least there could be some form of control, especially when it comes to teenagers. Educate them, give them alternatives, have them speak with counselors (who share both sides) and their parents and possibly a religious leader.

Of course, a three-month waiting period would work also.

I think abortion is wrong.....period! But since it is still legal, they definitely need to modify the laws.

OUTRAGED... That realy pisses me off... I dont care if you are for or against abortion, how can you Posibly want the procedure done with out your knowlage?? Absolutly rediculous that this is allowed. This needs to be corrected IMEDIATLY... Just makes it that much easier for teens to use abortion as a form of birth control without there parents even knowing it.. Pisses me off to no end!!!!!!!!

You hit the nail on the head...a form of birth control. That's what its all about with some of today's teens. Conveniance, laziness, and a lack of value for human life and this just makes it another all too convenient alternative to being responsible for the choices they will make.

Ironic that a kid needs Parental consent to get a stinking tatoo...but can murder a child as easy as buying a snickers bar.

Yep, very disturbing indeed!!

Everyone wonders what is wrong with many of our kids today...well, for starters, they have no value for human life. Abortion has been legal for ALL of their lives! I don't think they really grasp the controversy over it. The "no value for human life" affects their behavior way more than most people think. It's not just expressed with abortion. Just think about it a little...they show it in many ways!

Don't get me wrong...this doesn't apply to ALL kids.

Yes SG...we must be careful not to generalize...which is why I use "some".

But the general theme, which you so eloquently explained for us all, exists in even the "good" kids, for the very reason you said. They have grown up with outrageous behavior being the "Norm", why should we expect them to flinch an eyebrow over disposing of an un-wanted baby?

I wish I knew the answers to change the mindset...but I know a good start!!!

Make abortion illegal so they know from the time they can read and write, that killing a baby is not acceptable behavior.

I don't even call it "abortion" anymore....I call it what it really is: infanticide...the murder of a helpless, innocent baby before it's born

That's where part of the problem arises. Liberals want to define a baby as one thing and conservatives want to define it as another.

I was only 6 months along when I was born and that was 35 years ago. Medical science has come along way. So I have an argument for anyone who tries to say a baby isn't viable until the last trimester. But it gets harder when you talk about the first trimester. Liberals claim it's not a baby because it can't live outside the mother's body.

Too bad we can't prove the baby can read and write from the moment of conception.

I have a hard time understanding why some people don't believe it is a baby until a "certain" time. So, on Monday it's not a baby, but on Tuesday it is??? I mean, how do they decide the exact point it becomes a baby? Just read the scriptures Amanzi posted. Shouldn't that settle it? :?
