Wish me well!!!!

#1 Postby deb_in_nc » Wed Aug 06, 2003 5:18 pm

I stopped smoking this afternoon. It's gonna be expensive but I have to do it. The Dr. said yesterday that I have the lungs of a 70 year old. He gave me scripts for Zyban and the Nicotrol Inhaler. Both cost me $148 at Costco. Eckard was going to charge $190 for both. Insurance won't pay for it because it costs so much. Have to take both for 6 mths. he said. I need all the prayers I can get.

Debbie

PS I've been smoking for 31 yrs. Why did I even start?????

Deb, what a tough road you have to travel. You definitely have prayers coming from the Burgh. I almost quit. I'm down to about 3 cigarettes a day. Not good enough but much better than before. You, Corialis and Bron with be my inspirations. Keep us posted. You'll have lots of support around here!!!!

Good Luck

Wow! All of these people quitting! Of course I have you in my prayers. You'll have some tough days ahead of you, but remember each one is a milestone to hang your hat on.

The fact that insurance won't pay is another fallacy of the name "Health Maintenance Organization" (HMO). :grrr: Just think of all of the money you will be saving by not buying cigarettes (right now in NJ it's $50.00 per carton!). I buy online to save $$$ but still, it's an expensive habit.

Deb....sending positive vibes your way!

Having never been a smoker, I cannot fully understand the challenges you face.....but I know you have a great community of "helpers" here that will be with you all the way!

There's a saying I tell myself often........

"How do you eat an elephant......one bite at a time!"........p

You've got it Deb........it's a terrible habit, I've been smoking for over 28 yrs now, only trouble with me quiting, I enjoy them too much.

Now, I don't know how your handling the Zyban....I've heard from numerous friends who have quit smoking that side effects from the Zyban is as bad if not WORSE than the withdrawls from the nicotine.......let us know how your doing!

All my parents smoke, sadly. I've second hand smoked for about all my life(inhaling the smoke).

I'll never start, it costs way too much money.

Hang in there Deb...reward yourself with something besides a big bill for meds if you make it a week...something nice after two, too. Better yet, get those around you to promise you fun things too. It's all about the level of desire and the support system around you.

Good luck, Debbie.

I know I should quit, especially since I know that the lung cancer my father is will claim his live eventually. Quitting smoking is harder to overcome than just about any addiction on Earth, and I wish you the best.

I hope someday I'll have the courage to quit soon.

Day #2.
Some frinds and I went to eat at a new grill that just opened Monday. After we finished eating everybody went outside to smoke. They just went and left me sitting at the table, all by myself. I felt so isolated and abandoned. Maybe I'll have to stop going out to eat. I didn't like that feeling at all.

Look at it this way Deb, that's one hurdle you overcame. I always feel left out and silly when I step outside a restaurant to smoke by myself. I feel like such an addict sometimes - but then again, I am. You are always going to have to get past that first time when you don't have a cigarette during a break at work, in your car, on the telephone, in a bar, out to dinner, etc. As you get past each one, you will realize that you've survived!
