Awesome!
But I have to ask.....was this Yoko's doing? Because just a few artists were holdouts and Lennon was one of them. My 17 yr old daughter is a diehard Lennon and Beatles fan. More than I was even (and I was, but I was only 8 when I declared Paul my favorite Beatle, she still asks me why John wasn't my fave....LOL!).
Thanks for reminder Steph. She owns almost all of his music though by now - the legal way of course. You can spend incredibly little amounts, buying used CD's.

I would say that it would have had to have Yoko's blessing for this to come about. There probably was a lot of negotiating going on but it's FINALLY done!

I think it was her doing. . . I remember she was quoted in one of articles about being excited or something about it. What is even nicer is EMI is the label distributing the downloads. That means higher bitrate, better quality ,
DRM-free downloads (for 39 cents more). Lennon was the last holdout among the Beatles on the download bandwagon. I think they are setting the stage for the release of the entire Beatles catelogue for download scheduled for late 2007/early 2008.

I did receive the "DRM" free message each time I downloaded a song. They sound great so far - "Imagine", "Just Like Starting Over", "Mind Games".

Beatle John Lennon Graces iTunes
Techtree News Staff Email Print
Aug 16, 2007
Legendary Beatle, John Lennon, will reportedly now grace Apple Computer's iTunes digital music store.
Late John Lennon's solo catalog comprising 16 albums will be available on iTunes. While many of Lennon's solo recordings are commercially available on other sites, this is the very first time they are being made available on iTunes.
The tracks are being offered DRM-free as part of EMI Music's digital catalog, along with high quality 256 kbps AAC encoding.
While the DRM-free albums are priced at $1.29 per song, the regular versions are available alongside, priced at the usual 99 cents each.
The Lennon albums available on iTunes include Lennon Legend and Acoustic that were previously not available anywhere for download.
In a statement issued by Apple, Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, expressed joy saying John would have loved the fact that his music will now be available in a format suited to a new generation of listeners.
Along with the audio albums, iTunes is also offering exclusive video content, including John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, Sometime in New York City, Walls and Bridges, Milk and Honey, The Collections Anthology, and Working Class Hero for a limited 30-day period.
I need to make a correction. I was under the impression that George Harrison's and Ringo Starr's solo efforts were available for download, but they are not available for purchase via download. Though apparently Harrison's wife is considering make his music available for download.

B-b-ut they just came out with new Nanos. Hmpfh.
I hope they come out with different colored Videos. I've been wanting a video instead of a nano, but was thinking once I bought it they would come out with new colors and I'd be bummed.

. . think widescreen multitouch video iPod, like the iPhone. . . at least that's the rumor and speculation. I would be happy with just more storage. Though a widescreen touch iPod sounds good. I hope it is worth the wait. . .

George Harrison's albums, from All Things Must Pass to Brainwashed, are now in the iTunes Store. That means the solo work of all four Beatles is now covered. From what I've read, the Beatles catalog is definitely on its way, but may or may not make it into iTunes before the end of the year.
ETA: I think the entire Beatles catalogue will be release by mid-January 08.

For those who are Led Zepplin fans:
The band has caved on digital downloads. Their songs will be available on iTunes and other download services on November 13.
That leaves Beatles and Garth Brooks (and maybe Metallica, but I need to check on that) as only major holdouts on digital downloads. But, I don't think the Beatles should count, because it is more of a when will it be available, than if it will be available situation.

Doesn't michael jackson own the rights to the beatles music?
