I know this is not necessarily a weather topic, but for those of us who watch the skies and being that it only occurs once a year, and since we don't have any immediate threats to land; can we have somre reports of meteor activity observed by our member tonight? I would love to know how active this shower is this year. Last year I watched during an almost full moon and still got quite a show. Report if you are interested. So far, It's 11:50 in S. Houston and I haven't seen my first meteor for the evening. Will update if no one minds this extra thread for one evening.

I just stepped out and couldn't see a single star...or the moon.

I saw one meteor when I went out earlier.

Well, I've seen two relatively faint meteors at this point, but the light pollution is horrific in my area. I would love to hear more from those that stay up late tonight. Be sure to watch the NE horizon to about 60° up. Would love to hear better meteor experiences than I'm bound to see myself in such a light cluttered area. UGH! And I hate in some ways to put this here, but it seems that weather buffs are much better at real-time observation than astronomers seem to be. Their forums are cluttered with much that is irrelevant to what is happening right this moment. One thing Storm2K definately has going for it is that we are always talking about the here and now or something 2 weeks out... well at least most of the time.

Can this thread be moved to a more appropriate forum?

i saw two or three very quick moving meteors in the 30 minutes I went out...

That's fine... move it to off topic and I'm sure I nor anyone else will post in it again... I explained my reasoning for putting it here, but if in the name of weather science this is really causing a problem at 600Z then by all means move it and we won't worry about anything but storms that are days away from forming. I apologize for placing it here... just thought it might provide something to ponder while we wait each 30 min. or more for satellite or model updates....

Finally, I saw what was a pretty bright long-trailing meteor, but is was in the exact oppposite direction of the perseid radiant. Oh well, at least it was a bright meteor to enjoy, heading almost due north from about 90° overhead.

Went out for 3 hours or so to rural NC countryside and saw at least 50 meteors! Great night since there is no moon and little haze now. Three years ago tonight I was awaiting what hurricane Charley would do in SW Florida. I saw one Perseid that night while we were getting gas- a long Earth-grazer just after 9pm.

Well, me report is the shower was fairly ~meh~. Just just went outside for about 20 minutes, and saw 5 meteors. They were fast moving, but left fairly short paths. The first two came quickly, within a minute of parking, and the other three were about 5 minutes apart each.

I live in a rural part of my courty, and due to my location near what I would term a hollow (near a stream with banks reaching 30 feet up about 200 yards away in the direction of most light pollution, and trees blocking the other directions) I get a pretty dark sky. I parked in my convertible on the access path to the farmer's field next to my house, let the top down, the seat back, and pointed towards the NE.

There are proper forums for this stuff. This isn't tropical, so doesn't go here. I think that's fairly obvious.

Last night at about 11:30 PM EDT I went outside and saw one. Stayed out for about 10 more minutes and didn't see anything else, so I went back into the house and to sleep!!!

Meteor showers like aurorae are meant to be viewed from a dark sky site. If you were at one, the shower was fair with lots of faint meteors if you were in a city it was a bust.

Saw one while I was driving home last night. Was all I got to see.

I was up at 0330 MST Sunday Morning (today) and JUST as I stepped off the porch for a better look......there was a HUGE one right over head, thought "WHOA...if this is the way the rest of the show is gonna be!"

That was it for me.....we've had clouds and hellacious thunderstorms the past 2 nights in a row but HEY....I've seen MANY a meteor shower due to my location, I'll take RAIN over meteors ANYDAY
