Re: Poll: Weather Radio
Yes I do! I have, including the devices with NOAA Wx bands, at least 6 devices. Two of those are actual NOAA Wx Radios, and I plan to get a home one with SAME. (My radio that has SAME is a portable one)

Re: Poll: Weather Radio
Yes, but I can't stand that it goes off for storms that are 80 miles away and not even heading my way.
Other then that, It comes quite in handy.

After Seeing these replys you can go to look at weather radios with the S.A.M.E feature....you can make it go off for only your county or any you choose.

I have two of them. I have my HAM radio which has all of the radio bands on it, and I have my weather radio that sits on my desk. My HAM radio is constantly with me, so I have weather at my fingers all the time and the weather radio resides in our office, since my wife is in there all day long. It provided to be a very valuable tool last Thursday when the county went under a tornado warning. Even though our part of the county was not listed as part of the warning, my wife went downstairs with the dog. I'm glad she did, because were the tornado actually touched down, was less then 10 miles from our house.

My OLD Radio Shack (!!) portable may have saved my life... I was driving in Western Massachusetts with an elderly relative when it went off with urgent microburst warning and I pulled off the road. I had wanted to do so before, but my passenger was upset because she was afraid of missing a bus connection. But when the "government radio" told her it was a bad storm, she agreed to seek shelter.
Within 2-3 minutes of getting off the highway and into a building, we watched a tree come down on where we had been just minutes before...
We have 2 portable NOAA radios (one for each of us) and two in the house--one with SAME and one of the older ones without SAME. The one without SAME is better because it does cover a wider range and so we get "more warning" when something is headed our way than we do with the SAME radio! And SAME seems to be pretty useless if you drive around into different weather situations--the old NOAA portables adjust to where they are and you don't have to go through complicated crap to set them. We also have some junky portable radio I bought to take to the beach for less than $10 that has a built-in NOAA radio as well as AM/FM. It also "goes off" and this is very important if there is a thunderstorm coming because it gives you time to get off the beach before you can hear/see the storm coming. (Old technology here also).
I think that's what I like about the non-SAME NOAA weather radios--we may get awakened for a storm that is an hour away--but it almost always is headed for us, so we get an "early" warning. In contrast, when the SAME radio goes off, we have minutes before the storm or whatever is upon us. I'd much rather have a few "false alarms."
By the way, I've given 4 of these (so far) to others as presents...
I've also given CO detectors as presents...
When they were first on the market, I had some friends who were awakened in the middle of the night by one of their Christmas presents under the tree to find that their house was on fire--they all got out safely. Somehow the smoke had made it into the packaging and those first smoke alarms came with the batteries in place! So I've always thought that safety stuff makes really good presents.

I had weather radio since late 1991. I did not get an alarm unit until 1997. Then you must press the "WEATHER" button to hear the warning. My current one of over two years has two great features: 1. it automatically switches to the broadcast after screaming the alarm, so I don't have to fiddle around and more importantly (hee, hee), don't have to get up. 2. It reads the end-of-message tones and goes back to s standby!
