What is the highest elevation you have been and how did you get there? Airplanes don't count.
This was inspired by the thread on "how many states have you visited"
Back in my younger days I bicycled to the top of Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
Elevation 12,183.

Mine would be Pikes Peak. By car. Very close to the edge. VERY close to the edge. Then we got to the top and the colorado springs motorcycle patrol was there. They were taking pics of each other and the gracious southerner that i am, huffed and puffed my way over to them and offered to take a pic with all of in the pic. They got me back though...i had to take a pic with them sitting on one of their bikes!

Mine would be the mountain I climbed in West Va. when I was a kid. I do not know how high it was but the thing I remember was the old man at the little cabin we saw that said " Get OFF MY Mountain Before I Shoot You" that sent me and my cousins running for dear life down the mountain to get away from there.

I don't know for sure...but I think the highest was the top of Mammoth mountain in California (a bit over 11,000 feet). I got there by gondola and then only stayed a few minutes since it was windy and cold. The midday temperature at the summit was only near 50F during the late afternoon in mid July.

About 1200 feet. It was so beautiful. More a hill than a mountain but being born and raised in Tampa, it felt like the highest mountain in the world to me.

I'm not sure of the exact elevation but I know I've been to 10,200' at Mt. Washburn's summit in Yellowstone and I've been in places that had near that elevation without being on a mountain. My whole body felt funny. I'm used to being below sea level and being at anything above 7000' made me feel sick to my stomach.

As a child my family went to the highest point in Alabama on Cheaha (Chee-Haw) Mountain. It is 2,400 feet. Other than that I have stayed in flat Florida my whole life.

The top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshiere...I've hiked and drove to the summit. I just need to ride the cog to the summit and then I can say I've been to the summit all three ways. Elevation - 6288'

In Colorado; Red Mountain #3 (12,890) above Ouray and Fairview (12,870) above Pitkin both summer free climbs. A number of winter ascents into the Mummy range above Estes Park. Turned around at about the 17,000 level on a failed attempt to summit Denali (Mt McKinley, Alaska). Lots of unnamed mountain summits in the Chugach mountains of south central Alaska. Stopped climbing in 1979 after an out of bounds injury (double compound fracture lower right leg.....tib/fib).
For me.....the winter climbs above timberline was a spiritual experience.

Mt. Evans, 14,264 feet, and Pike's Peak, 14,110 feet, in Colorado.
Pike's Peak was my first "14'er".
Ed - The Trail Ridge Road is awesome - the whole park is.
If you're never been to the Colorado Rockies, I HIGHLY recommend the trip. It's truly God's country.

I've been to Pike's Peak too, so that might be it - 14110 ft.
I've been to Denali National Park, too, and I'm not actually sure how high we got - but my guess is it wasn't quite that high.

O Town,
Fla isn't exactly flat, Bok Tower sits on the highest elevation in FLa. Bok Tower is over near Lake Wales in Polk County.

Same here... imagine that!
I was only 8 years old, but I remember that trip up there. VERY close to the edge here as well. I thought my mom was going to have a heart attack as my dad drove up. From what I can remember, I could actually look out my window, and see so far down, that it was like you're standing on the edge... looking down for miles. I remember feeding chipmunks, and they would let you get close to them, and I think I remember like a park or something, with a little train, but I could be confusing that with another place we went. It was summertime and it was a lot cooler way up there!
Elevation - 14,110 feet.
