San Diego

Is anyone on this board from San Diego, been there, or have family/friends there? I am considering a possible move in about a month or so to either Phoenix (which already has its own thread), San Diego, or anywhere out west. But Phoenix and San Diego are my top options (both of which would be huge moves, coming from Michigan).
Please consider that my sister lives in Phoenix and has a friend who may be offering me a job when making your opinion on whether I should live there or in San Diego.
But anyway, I would now like to dedicate this thread to reasons why I should or should not move to San Diego. I'm asking about San Diego because I don't know a whole lot about issues like crime, number of good job opportunities, cost of renting an apartment, smog, and traffic. However, it sounds like the weather is rather nice year-round, never too hot or too cold. Plus, if I want to visit my sister, it's a hefty drive but it is do-able at least. I believe six hours or so, and I've done 7-8 by myself before without tiring.
So does anyone know whether San Diego might be a good fit for me?

San Diego has a nice albeit boring at times climate and there's a lot to do but be advised that living in California is EXPENSIVE.

Well, my husband is from San Diego and I have visited twice although it was a looooong time ago. There is a small city outside San Diego called Poway. That is where they used to live. I loved it! Don't know how much it has changed though. I'm sure it has grown consideraly since we were last there.
Cost - it is VERY expensive to buy a home in that area. That much I know hasn't changed.

the only bad thing about san diego is it's EXPENSIVE and the traffic is grotesque.

Unless you will find a very high-paying job, take Phoenix. All of the urban areas of California (and even many of the non-urban areas!) have a ridiculously high cost of living.

Hi. I live in San Diego.
Yes, the cost of living is very high. But the climate is very good, though considering you're from MI, it can get a little hot during summer (NOTHING compared to Phoenix though). Depending on where you live, traffic can be a problem (worst in North County). Compared to LA though, it's still fairly good. Smog is rare, I've lived here for several years and haven't seen a real smoggy day. Crime rates, I'd suspect, increase as you get closer to the border, but otherwise it isn't all that bad (in fact, it's pretty good). There's a lot of places here to visit and sight see.
I wish I knew more about job opportunities, but I haven't started looking in that area, so can't provide you a lot of information there, unfortunately.

I know I'm being picky, but at least one of the pictures on that page is not from San Diego.

I had the unfortunate luck to be homeported at NAS Alameda (Oakland), but the ship made San Diego a couple of times a year. Its beautiful. People are friendly. Beaches, not far from mountains, skiing.
Don't know about cost of living, but even with a good central AC, two months a year of 110ºF would, to me, make Phoenix not a good option.
