Lancaster Independent School District is proposing a 4-day school week, meaning that the students will be having longer weekends, but in order for this to work, Elememtary school students will have to stay in school for up to 2 extra hours. It is part of Lancaster ISD's effort to save money, but not everyone agrees with the proposed schedule.

More on this issue here.

I'm beginning to agree with some who are against this proposal, because when we make the transition back to Standard time, the skies will be dark when classes are dismissed.

Education is already bad in the US. I remember that when I was in Cuba we were required to learn the multiplication tables from 1 to 10 in second grade. My sister is going to sixth grade and she is still having problems with multiplication. Not that she isn't smart, but the education system is slow. Two more hours in school will make kids more tire. Already a school day is long, so two more hours is not good. We need a better education system. A lot more money should be for education than to police the world, but for Washington when both issues come to the table, policing gets the upper hand. Americans are unhappy with the fact that intellectuals from other countries are taking their jobs, but they are not seeing that the problem start with the education kids are getting at school. That's why the American universities need to import professors from other countries, we're not producing enough professors to meet the demand. Let me stop to keep it a sane argument.

Education is already bad enough. I'm against making it a 4 day week, I'd actually like a 6 or 7 day week.

I think this would cause problems. Kids have limited attention spans. Extra hours spent in school for the day will be ineffective. This would also be tough on working parents.

What happens if both parents work? They set up their life around a 5 day week, and now the district wants to change that.
