PLANT CITY – An Amtrak train derailed about 3:25 p.m. at Park Road and Baker Street, authorities said. Witnesses said the train apparently hit a truck, killing at least one person, before some of its cars left the track. About 800 gallons of diesel spilled.
Crossties were ignited but firefighters extinguished them. An estimated 150 passengers are being evacuated to a nearby bowling alley.
No other details were immediately available.

Only 6 people injured on the train that derailed after hitting a semi truck . The truck driver was killed.
Yesterday's train car collision was the result of a car going around another car that was stopped at a train crossing with the gates down and went around the first gate but got hit by the train before they could clear the second gate. All four persons in the car were killed.
Both of these train -vehicle collisions happened around 3:17-3:20 pm

I have been at that intersection quite a few times going to the strawberry festival.
Scary thought to think a train could derail while waiting for it to pass. I feel bad for the fellows family.
Were both the accidents in Plant City? Or was it just this last one.

The first one was in Lakeland. Both trains were on the same track from Miami to NY with a stop in Tampa.

Just a few miles in between also ...Also this happened in june..
The fatal crash occurred about two miles west of the Airport Road crossing where Kacee Hanscom, 18, was killed by an Amtrak train on June 13. She pulled around the crossing gate that was blocking the road.
Not a very good route for Amtrak 3 wrecks 6 fatalities in a month...Yet all of them were because of carless drivers..

This is why you should always stop at railroad crossings! From a driver's perspective, an oncoming train always appears to be farther away and moving slower than it really is.
