BOHEMIA, New York (AP) -- According to police, a phony cop picked the wrong guy to pull over.
Officers on New York's Long Island charge Robert Lane posed as a police officer, complete with flashing lights on his S-U-V. They say he tried to stop a car driven by a real off-duty New York City police detective.
The detective got suspicious when the suspect drove alongside and flashed a small badge. Investigators say the detective showed the man a real police I-D and ordered him to pull over. When he didn't, the real detective followed and called in local police to make the arrest.
Lane now faces charges including criminal impersonation and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
