Verizon users

I CANNOT believe that I actually found ONE honest SOUL in the business of cell phones :ggreen:

I have a Motorola Razor (4 months old) and my battery, no MATTER what, would die after 8 hours and I do mean DIE!! Somedays I would place NO calls and it would still die!

Anyways, went to the dealer where I do most of business with, thought he was a "honest" salesman  He had me talked into buying a "extended" life battery at the final cost of $60. The battery will be in next week.

I thought, man, that's high so I went to another dealer, a local Radio Shack and the young man asked me 2 questions and then asked "How often do you update your phone?" I said, none! He then stated that Verizon upgrades their towers at LEAST once a month and that any and ALL Verizon users should do this:

Press *228
then press Option 2

This upgrades your phone. You see, when they work on the towers, it causes your phone to "roam" which EATS your battery BIG TIME!!

SO...bottom line, I *228'ed my phone, I did that yesterday morning at 0900 MST and it's now 1100 MST the next day, I've made 12 calls, sent 4 text messages and my phone is FULLY charged still.

Just an FYI...you might want to perform this action on your Verizon phones!

I have YET to update my phone and I use Verizon. I've never had problems with my battery or the charge, but it is a totally different phone.

Marty has one of those "razors" and he hates the sound quality.

Thanks for the FYI though!

Stephanie, see now I LOVE the quality of the Razor, I like it's sleek and slim design and the bigger screen. I'm due for an upgrade on my phone on MONDAY and YES...I'm getting a new Razor.

Dennis. I have verizon, but the carrier has nothing to do with battery life. I had an LG phone from Verizon. The batteries after maybe 4 months would start going to one bar after 1 day and I couldn't figure out why. Well the guy told me that b/c I always leave it on the charger...like at night and while I'm at home that this can "warp" the battery. He then put the battery on the table and spun it...it was fatter in the middle so it spun like a top. He then got out a new battery and spun it. That one made maybe one turn. So i replaced the battery and only charged it when it needed charging. Once the phone displayed "charge complete" I would take it off the charger. If I wasn't able to stay by the phone I would just charge it for a while and take it off before I went off to do smthg else. I never charge it at night either. Now my phone will last me 3-4 days without even charging. Its great!

See now, I don't leave my phone on charge either, when I do charge it, I turn off the phone (as it says to in the book  ) and like you, when it says "charge complete" it comes off. Now another thing I found out, the young man said not to use a car charger, only in emergencies. A car charge is a "wham, bam" charge, not a trickle charge.

Since I've upgraded with the *228, my phone has gone 2 days now without a charge and I've made over 18 calls and 6 texts and it's STILL full!

I am having the same problem with my phone. I have a motorola but not the Razr. They just changed the battery for no charge and said if I continue to have the same problems, that they will replace the phone. I do leave mine on the charge at night. I am not by it to see when it's complete. I get home from work, stick it on the charger, and go to bed. Then I get up in the morning and go to work. I need to try the update thing though.

ohiostorm, I have a motorola but not a Razr too. I have noticed that my battery won't stay charged as well as it used to. (only a few months old) I tried the *228 thing that azsnowman said today. We'll see how that works.

Thanks azsnowman!

Thanks. I have the same problem with my LG phone and they told me how to do it, but I forgot! I just did it the other day and it definitely helped. Other than that, and the fact that the camera in my phone is pretty worthless, I love Verizon. I've found their customer service to be excellent, and every time I deal with them, it's a pleasant experience, which is very unusual these days. They have even called me on a few occasions to tell me that they reviewed my plan and found a LESS expensive plan that would probably work for me!

It didn't work for me. I must have an internal problem. They said they would replace my phone. I really want a Treo. I wonder if they will work out a deal for me.

And yeah their customer service is awesome. I have had no problems. They have called my gf before to suggest different plans that would help her out.

I think alot of times it depends also on where you live or where you are during the day - are you near a tower so it never has to search, etc. Living fairly far from a tower mine does this thus gets lets charge time as it is searching half the time.
