I need YouTube help

I have a question for those of you that are familiar with uploading videos to Youtube. How do I convert TV footage recorded on my DVD for use on Youtube? I can play it in Windows Media Player but I can't play it in Windows Movie Maker. What kind of software do I need to convert my DVD footage to a format (like .AMV , .WMV etc.) suitable for YouTube?

All I know is the file type for YouTube videos is .FLV and is a flash type movie format.

Convert it to .wmv and then convert to .flv http://tinyurl.com/yszxy2
