Quite a few mobile homes in our area that haven't taken the shutters off since 2004. Some have removed one shutter for light, but its still a dangerous practice.

I never leave them up, first of all, I hate them-lol, and I've thought about fires before, it blocks your escape.

This is exactly why I fear having my shutters up. When they are up for a storm, I keep a 10 lb. ax next to a bedside window.

I have one neighbor who has had wood covering windows since Ivan. Quite annoying as it makes the neighborhood look trashy.
