Ignorance... Isn't it wonderful!

#1 Postby Meso » Tue May 22, 2007 6:55 am

Some of the most stupid and ignorant quotes ever said. Some people really shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

It's funny when people want everyone in the world to think and act like them.

"When I, or people like me, are running the country, you'd better flee, because we will find you, we will try you, and we'll execute you. I mean every word of it. I will make it part of my mission to see to it that they are tried and executed."

I have no doubt this is exactly what a lot of them would like to do, which makes some of these people no better than Nazis or Stalinists. Its really that simple. Sure, some of thos quotes are taken out of context, but some of those folks pose a grave threat to democracy. Let them spout their poison, it makes it easier to keep an eye on them.

Agreed. An exposed ignorant bigot is a lot less dangerous than a hidden one.

"When science and the Bible differ, science has obviously misinterpreted its data."

I agree with that statement 100%...

There were a few quotes in there I agree with...however most of them were stupid.

"Better a pink bottom than a black soul." LOL

"Sodomy is a graver sin than murder. – Unless there is life there can be no murder."

I hope he told his fellow priests that...

"The division of power (in the government) was an aid to liberty. On the other hand, it led to great military disasters. It dissolved democracy into mob rule. What astonishes us is that such a government could last so long and achieve so much. Perhaps it endured because of its adaptability to change, and the proud patriotism formed in the home, the school, the temple, the army. Devotion to the state marked the zenith of the Republic, as corruption marked its fall. Rome remained great as long as she had enemies who forced her to unity, vision, and heroism. When she had overcome them all she flourished for a moment and then began to die."

Durant on the decline of the Roman Republic

They appplied analysis to everything; they refused to respect traditions that could not be supported by the evidence of the senses or the logic of reason and they shared decisively in a rationalist movement that finally broke down, among the intellectual classes, the ancient faith of Hellas. The common opinion of his time, says Plato, derived the world and all animals and plants from some spontaneous and uninteligent cause. The Sophists must not be blamed or credited for all of this, much of it was the natural result of growing wealth, leisure, travel, research, and speculation. Wealth of itself, puts an end to puritanism and stoicism. To define morality or human worth in terms of knowledge was a heady stimulus to thought, but an unsteadying blow to character. The distinction between "Nature" and convention , and the willingness to argue that what "Nature" permitted was good regardless of custom or law, sapped the ancient supports of Greek morality, and encouraged many experiments in living. Old men mourned the passing of domestic simplicity and fidelity and the pursuit of pleasure or wealth uncheked by religious restraints. This unscrupulous individualism degraded their broad cosmopolitanism into a cautious reluctance to defend their country, or an unprejudiced readiness to sell it to the highest bidder. "

Durant on the decline of Athenian society and the eventual fall of Ancient Greece.

My take on this is that America as passed it's prime. My prediction: A dictator.
