A local radio station near Falwell's university is reporting that he has pronounced dead. AP has not yet confirmed.

EDIT: The university has confirmed.

Whether we agreed with, liked or even cared who Jerry Falwell was or not, let's be respectful.

It's really pathetic and sad how people will still talk trash about someone even after their dead.Seriously people, grow up.

Even I didn't really agree with much of what he did or said but at least I'm brave enough to show some respect.

My mothers favorite saying is if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all. Its difficult sometimes but I do think its good advice.

mmm, where was the demand for respect when Yeltsin died or when Castro was reported to be near death....

People who deserve and earn respect get mine, not Jerry Falwell.

Seeing as he was one of those men who thanked God whenever someone he disagreed with died...I believe that thanking God for the good reverend's death might actually be one of the most respectful ways we can honor Falwell's legacy.

Any death is a tragedy to be mourned. It's sad how even in death Falwell only stirs up hypocrisy.

Whether Jerry Falwell did bad or good, all we can do is pray for his family and friends.

While there's no need for name calling, there's no denying that he was a seriously flawed person. He was horribly racist. What he did in South Africa during apartheid was unforgivable. That's usually all you need to know about someone. But on top of that, he thought that 9/11 was America's fault.

Not being disrespectful, just stating facts.

As I recall, he blamed feminists, environmentalists, gays, lesbians, the ACLU and a few other groups for 9/11. Apparently feminists have so much power that we can convince the Almighty to "remove his hand of protection" from America. Who knew???

He later apologised, but things like that are not forgotten or forgiven easily.

That being said, I know his family misses him and grieves their loss.
