I personally think its up to that guy to do with his Medal whatever he wishes. I would have declined it as a matter of principle if I was the President though. Kind of insulting to those who have had their legs blown up.

You are right Kevin.. 100% up to the one who is giving it. I like you would of declined it though.. And GW might of.. We don't know.. But it is a big jesture of him to give it like that. Quite an honor even when given in that fashion

I'm with Kevin and Chad on this one ... Mr. Thomas (they don't give his rank in the article) earned that medal honorably and I absolutely respect his decision.

And I see it as it would be insulting to not accept it. I'm sure Mr. Thomas gave it a lot of thought before deciding to do this, and then to have it declined would seem a bit insulting to me, but I guess it's just the way you look at it.

I think he deserves it just for the fact our country has not been hit again since 9/11. That counts for something.

Well ... that's nothing unusual in terms of the time between al Qaeda operations of that scale. After all, there was no successful attack by al Qaeda on US soil for the eight years between the first WTC attack and 9/11. But I, for one, don't think President Clinton deserves a purple heart for that.

But as I said, it's Mr. Thomas' medal, honorably earned. Thus I must respect his decision to give it to President Bush.

A purple heart to someone who has never seen a day of combat or service. He should give it to someone who actually deserves it.

Why are some of you acting as if George W. Bush forced the guy to give him the purple heart? Why can't you guys just respect the man's decision and keep the Bush bashing off to the side.

Mods, if this is too political, please let me know and I will happily remove my post.

I am no fan of President Bush, but he did not at any time in his past go AWOL.

I didn't get to see your post so it would be difficult for me to offer an explanation as to why it was deleted.

However, you and I discussed it via PM -- I asked and you replied that no one on staff PM'd you to explain why it was deleted or to give you a warning. Two mods, however, PM'd you to let you know it wasn't them.

That was one of the main issues I addressed when I resigned as a mod here -- the lack of communication with members and the lack of communication among staff. Of course, since I'm not on staff anymore, I can't say for certain if the mod or admin who deleted your post addressed it with other staff. But it's clear that whoever it was did not communicate with you. I hope this drives home the point that it was not always one particular moderator who locked, edited, or deleted threads or posts. If someone on staff is still neglecting to communicate with members, how are members supposed to understand the rules and understand when they break them?

Since there is a rule about questioning mods on the open board, this post may not remain here long (and I may get banned) because it may be perceived as a direct slam against the staff. I hope not because I'm trying to be diplomatic about this and I sincerely hope that it will further illustrate the point I tried to make when I resigned -- I hope you guys can communicate more or else members will continue to view the staff as unfair and biased, among other things.
