Remember your first car or your folks first car? What was something that car had that these new cars don't have?

Was it the Olds that had the three or so holes on the side?

Oh Good Lord Janice! You HAD to go there! LOL! My first car was a '79 Ford Pinto, the hatchback briefly made infamous for the fact that they sometimes exploded if rear-ended. My dad found it for all of $250. What a wreck. I spent more money putting it back together than had I just bought a half-way decent vehicle to begin with. One of my co-workers dubbed it "The Deathmobile." Not funny - it was too true!

I remember my parents' old Dodge Dart, but not the year of manufacture. We had it for what seemed like forever, and I seem to recall it actually had a push-button transmission. Does that ring a bell with anyone? Don't think that was around for very long - for good reason. Mom had an Austin-America that was probably the toughest vehicle I've ever had personal experience with. It just would not die. One summer Dad had to build a new transmission for it, and it was Death to any of us kids who dared to even set foot in the garage where all the parts were laid out. :-D

Cozy wings. Now that memory has probably confused many. But this was a cool way to stay cool. OMG, did I just say that? LOL

I don't remember an Olds with holes on the sides!!! But I remember telling my dad when I was around 5, circa 1960, I was going to buy a brand new Buick with the stand up wings on the back, near the trunk. I thought those were to die for. He just smiled, saying I would want a different car when I was older. So true, so true.

My first car was a Chevy Impala. My ex painted it himself but didn't mix the paint very well. It was a navy blue color but the bubbles were permanent in the paint finish - you could run your hand over the entire finish and it was rough. But it saved us big bucks back then - that was important!

Mine was a white 57 Chevy.

The first care i remember my family having was one of those station wagons back in *gasp* the early 60's where the 3rd seat faced backwards with a little well (where i would lay) between the second & third seats. My first car (which wasn't until college) was a pukey green ford torino. My first car in my name was a volare. Sing it now...Voooooooooooooooooooooooooooolare, whoa whoa-o whoa whoa.

CM - I remember one of my friends parents had a wood paneled station wagon. Instead of the third seat facing the bumper, it held two seats, that faced each other. Each had 2 seats. So in theory 4 more kids could be stowed back there, kicking eachother the entire trip! Coming from a small family I would look longingly at those station wagons and think - oh wouldn't that be so neat, to travel with your brothers and sisters, all smooshed in together? What did I know. My husband is one 6 kids and he'd told us the funniest stories of family vacations. They were not fun!

Does anyone remember Corvairs? They didn't have the hump in the backseat floorboard. My dad would say they were death traps. Sure enough he was right. He also said that about VW Bugs, b/c the engines were in the back. LOL

My first car was a 1988 Dodge Omni....little red partymobile. Music and friends, ya know.

My Father one had a Nash Inverted Bathtub (as it was called) with overdrive (this was back in the early 1950's. It did look like a bathtub turned upside down and was overweight and underpowered..

My first car was a 79 Monte Carlo. I loved that car even though it was not what all the other kids where driving around, I could blast right past them with that V8. Out of all the cars I have owned since then I have to say that one ran the best, I mean you could run the thing with no water or oil and it would keep on going. lol.

My father's first car was a Plymouth Fury...a boat with fins, lol, I think the year was 55 not sure, then he got a Buick Special 65.

my first car was a turquoise 1976 triumph spitfire.

Mine was a blue '53 Ford and that was in '58. Daddy gave someone who wanted money badly $500.00 for it and then I paid him back. One weekend my fiance and I drove 100+ miles to visit some of his family and planned to spend the night. He didn't like the way the car was sounding or handling so after a couple of hours of visiting we started back home so we could get there before dark. He didn't allow the car to come to a complete stop the whole way back. When we pulled into the front yard and stopped---the universal drive fell off.

The first car I remember my family having was a VW microbus - the funny thing with that was it didn't have a gas gauge - instead it had a little auxiliary tank. When you ran out of gas, you opened the valve to dump the gas in the auxiliary tank into the main tank, then you drove to the gas station a filled up. Woe to you if you forgot to close the valve again ...

Then we got a blue Rambler station wagon (with fins) that we dubbed "The Blue Monster." We drove all over the country in that thing.

A 1967 Ford Mustang, and it had a black vinyl top that I would spruce up with vinyl cream!

1968 Oldsmobile Cutlass SS. Oh what a blast. I miss that car!!!

My first vehicle was a 1970 Dodge Charger. I loved that car.

My cousin had a '72 VW Bug (this was back in 1979-1980)...I have good memories of that car. I still love the original Beetles.

1969 Buick Grand Sport, fire engine red, dual exhaust, black leather interior and black vinal roof. Guys used to flag me down so they could look under the hood! It was a MAN MAGNET! Wish I had it now
