Do you have anything in regards to your house that is still old fashioned or not updated?

We have a septic tank. I hate it. But, we are three blocks from the ocean and our whole community is still not on city water. They keep talking about it.

The row of houses I live doesn't have optical fiber, while the rest of the street is already connected to an optical fiber network.

If you count that when the water in our town comes out Brown and not clear because of the City's water system, I guess we have something that needs to be changed. If you fill the tub the water is brown, looks like watered down river water...hahahaha. I filled the washing machine the other day and hadn't put in the Tide or the clothes and when I looked at it I thought, man that looks like somebody already washed some muddy clothes in it. Needless to say, we don't drink or cook with tap water. We buy bottled water from a company. You can't use an ice maker because you go through a couple of filters a year to the tune of 100.00 dollars a pop so we buy ice or fill ice trays with the bottled water. Supposedly they are supposed to go to a "reverse osmosis" I'm not sure of the name, system next year, but I know after Katrina when the B.E.R.T. team came from Florida to help us they were trying to get the water system back on line and had to make parts because the system was so old, they couldn't buy parts for it. Since we were living with my Mother here in Moss Point we didn't have water for about a month after Katrina. We had to bring water to her house and or catch rain water (which was sparse at that time) to flush the toilets and used bottled water heated on the gas stove to wash dishes. Pascagoula changed their system a couple of years ago and I remember when my kids came running to me and said, Momma, something is wrong with the water and I said what...they said come see....I went to the bathroom and low and behold it was clear water...they didn't know what to think about being able to see the actual tub bottom and sides. They thought something was wrong. That was sooo funny. Then I filled up the sink to wash dishes and to see the actual bottom of a stainless steele sink was strange, but nice. We just pray that Moss Point will hurry up and get the new system installed.

This house is an older home and we replaced all the windows to the tune of $7,000.00 because they were single pane and actually rolled out on each side of a middle pane. Our power and gas bills went down dramatically when we did this because of the double paned insulated windows we had installed. When my neighbor across the street came home (they had been out of town while this was going on) she made her husband stop in the middle of the road so she could look at my house, she couldn't believe the difference it made in appearance. She wants new windows now big time..her husband said tough luck we just had these put in about 5 years ago. We got the ones that slide from right to left, not ones that go up and down and we didn't add the ornamental slats on them. You can reverse the screen and open either side of the window, it is so nice to have a breeze coming in since my house faces north and we get a wonderful breeze through the den and the kitchen no matter which way the wind is blowing. The only bad thing is I don't have a screen door on the back door so can't open the door and let in the sunshine which I love to do, need to get Robi on that..haha. My sons bedroom when he is home from college has a pocket door and the second week after we moved in some how it came off the hinges...he still hasn't been able to get it back up. I told him I was gonna call a Handyman or Carpenter or somebody to fix it, I don't think he believed me cause it still isn't fixed. MEN! (sorry guys) I couldn't find anybody to come do it anyway, everyone is busy repairing houses or building new ones. The only other thing is this house has nasty a$$ beige carpet everywhere but the kitchen and breakfast room and front entrance. It is very cheap carpet and still sheds all the time and it is old. In the master bedroom it has two humps where it needs to be stretched. As soon as possible that is the next big project is to have hardward floors put in, I can't wait!! Spending money and hopefully increasing the price of this house so if and when we decided to build back on our lot in Pascagoula we will get additional moneys from what we paid for this house. But one GOOD thing, at least we have a house now and are not living in that FEMA trailer...that sucks big time. I feel so sorry for folks still in them. I think they said on the news last night there were still like 2500 people in them in Jackson County.

This house was built in the 1860's and the wiring must be from the 1920's. It's the old knob and tube type. Most insurance companies won't write a homeowners policy. Some outlets don't work, there's wall switches that seem to do nothing, and if you plug in too many things in the living room, the breaker kicks out. We're renting so we're living with it until we move next time.

Our house was built in the '60s. I like our kitchen.. It is the kitchen that was re-done after a grease fire in 1966. It has ceramic-tile counters. It has the original kitchen sink. The kitchen floor has been replaced a few times. Would a trade it for a newer house? NO!

I live (with my parents and brother) in a 1940's semi-detached house. There is still a coal fire, although it is hardly ever lit now.
