It's 9 years away, but today either Chicago or Los Angeles will be chosen to represent the U.S. in the 2016 Summer Olympics. It is widely believed that the U.S. city will be a strong candidate since it'll be 14 years since Salt Lake and 20 years since the summer games in Atlanta.

But not til October 2009 will be the host city be chosen. Beijiing will host the summer games in August 2008, Vancouver in February 2010, and London in July/August 2012. 2014's winter host city will be either Sochi, Russia, Salzburg, Austria, or Pyeongchang, South Korea(will be decided in July).

Los Angeles previously hosted the summer games in 1932 and 1984.

I think cities that hold the Olympics more than once or twice should not hold it again. The exception is Athens, which should of gotten it in 1996.
