What an inefficient way to swim to Ireland. Go to France?

Well, when I put in North Carolina, Google Maps decided I had to go to New York, first. . .
Google Maps seems to want to give the roundabout way when giving directions.

Works with "New York" and "London," too -- The email I just opened used those cities!
[Edit: And also Rome, Paris, Madrid, Copenhagen....

NYC to Cadiz, Spain uses the same disembark location. Google is programmed to believe people swimming across the Atlantic must disembark in France.

I am planning a trip to Dublin. Should I take along a life vest for when I swim across the Atlantic? Also, do I leave the car in New York? I have no idea how I am going to swim while lugging a car along, but then, what do I drive once I reach land?
(Not really going there, by the way.)

And no matter what US/Canadian city I plug in, I have to start the Transatlantic "swim" at the Long Wharf in New York . . .
