If you had a choice of traveling cross country, how would you go, plane, train or automobile?
Driving to Flagstaff yesterday for what seems to be endless doctor appointments

I saw my first AMTRAK train in EONS near I-40....the main east to west BNSF line runs along the interstate and I thought "Man, I haven't been on a train since I was 5 yrs. old....I would LOVE to take a cross country trip like that.

Well, you could ask Steve Martin!
This topic title reminded me of the movie he made with John Candy (may he RIP). Hilarious movie, one I could watch over and over again.
I'm not relaxed enough to fly but I have flown. Trains would be different but I've only been on day trips. Never overnight. Our family have vacationed mostly by car.
My choice - car. I think it would an adventure to have an open ended schedule, time to get off the interstates and take roads thru sleepy little US towns. Now that sounds so nice!

Still one of my favorite movies to this day.. Favorite scene is when Steve Martin walks all the way back to the terminal and discusses the car not being in the slip with the women behind the counter.. Has me rolling now just thinking about it.. lol
My Choice - Plane, Plane, Plane.. I am not a patient guy.. When I want to be somewhere I want to be there yesturday. I get to stir crazy in a long car drive.. And as far as a train, the only Train I have ever been on is Thomas The Tank Engine with my son.. lol

Chad - my 2 fave scenes are when they're going the wrong way on the interstate and later when the cop (from Laverne & Shirley) asks them - "what the he** are you driving here?" - Now I'm ROFLMAO!!! Here's a link for quotes, I'm sure they'll bring a smile.

Train, it's the best way to travel through the country here; comfortable, fast and you get a nice view of the country. There are a few problems though; in the western part trains can become a bit crowdy and because the tracks are the busiest in Europe, trains aren't always very punctual.
Why not take a car? Well, gasoline is very expensive (eco-tax and other taxes), parking is also very expensive and the chances that you'll end up in a traffic jam are almost 100%, especially in the western part.
Why not take a plane? Well, it takes more time to check in then to fly from one side of the country to another.

Unless the goal were specifically to see the countryside in between, I'd travel by plane. It's teh cheapest and fastest way to travel cross-country.
If I wanted to see stuff in between, then car. You couldn't pay me enough to ride AMTRAK anywhere outside of the Northeast Corridor.

I'd need either an ambulance or a plane that is specifically designed for medical transport.
Trains? There's not an AMTRAK anywhere near me.
