Has anyone tried this program? I need to lose 50 pounds or so and was looking at their current special: 4 weeks of food plus one week free and no shipping charges is about $299. my other half will be out of town for the next month pretty much and i thought it might be an oppotune time to try it out.
any testimonials out there?

I saw that too, but they also tell you you have to diet, etc. to make the system work. It is just not the food alone. I am sure you can prepare the same quality foods at home and save. I am trying to lose 20 pounds. I am eating nothing but a salad for supper and just toast, etc. the rest of the day.
I am eating no sugars or FRUITS... all fruits are terrible for dieting, all natural sugars.
I husband got diabetes and just by cutting out all sugars and fruits, including orange juice, etc. he lost 50 pounds in three months.
Just have an egg and piece of dry toast for breakfast. A couple glasses of water to fill up yourself.
For lunch, have a piece of cooked chicken or fish, baked or broiled and a steamed veggie on the side.
For supper each night have a salad with chicken, shrimp or ham sliced on top.
Once your stomach shrinks and accepts all this, you will not be hungry
Drinking a ton of water a day will fill you up.
You don't need to buy these dinners, you can make better yourself. Besides, what are you going to do when the month is over, buy new foods.
You need to exercise to lose weight too.
The only reason I am overweight is I quit smoking about 7 months ago. I have always been a size 8 and jumped to a 12. Now, I have no clothes to wear, haha.

salad for dinner is great if you have a grocer who has decent produce, but it doesnt resolve the breakfast and lunch situation. I'll be back at work in a couple of days and have no time to prepare a lunch for work..... (i'm at work at 6:15 and leave at 4)
they are not frozen nor do they require refrigeration.
i'm actually looking for input from folks who have tried the system or know someone who has...

Well, go for it if you think it would work for you. Personally, I think people think they will loose weight doing this. If you can't lose weight eating salads and stuff you make at home, you can't lose it this way. I see Fergie and others who have lost weight with these programs, but remember these people are being paid millions to stick to this diet, it is their daily JOB.

You also have to make sure you are eating an adequate amount of calories. If not your body thinks it is starving itself and stores the calories. You will also need to snack during the day.
Alicia, try the southbeach diet. The recipes are easy and you could make a recipe and freeze part of it. I was on it but lapsed back into my old eating habits.

Nutri-system is offering a free week when you buy four, so you'll get five weeks out of that if you do it. You might want to ask Mary (MSRobi911) about it. Someone in her family ordered Nutrisystem about a month or two ago, so she should be able to tell you how it's working out for that person.

All diets aren't the same. The best diet IMO is no diet, but just developing a healthier way of eating. Sometimes a jump start with a program like Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers, or just buying Smart Ones dinners is helpful in doing that. But anyway, if Alice wants to try Nutrisystem, she's gonna try Nutrisystem.

I've never gone on one of those diets, but I do buy Smart Ones dinners because I really like a lot of them. They are very tasty and when I need a quick meal, I don't want 40 grams of fat and my food swimming in lard.

I agree that those Smart Ones are tasty and the portion size is decent.
I'm looking for something to jump start my motivational factor (or lack thereof). If I can see some results in a reasonable amount of time, I'll be more inclined to stick with it or even help it along....
I'm not a social animal, so getting on a scale weekly at a Weight Watchers meeting just aint gonna work for me (especially now that gas is $3 a gallon).
I do have a gym at home and a growing dog who insists on dragging me around for 30 minutes or so a day. So exercise isnt a problem.
But if all i have in the house for a couple of months is Nutrisystem or Jenny Craig or whatever, then I wont be tempted to eat something else. You cant eat what isnt there. I was just hoping someone else had tried it or Jenny Craig or something like it to offer up personal experiences before I took the plunge.

Yes, Southern, I agree all diets are not the same. But they are all the same in the fact that they say theirs works. They only work if you follow them in all regards, foods, exercise, etc. The eating part is always the easiest for me, it is the exercising every day that was hard for me. I am just saying I think you can eat as well by preparing your meals at home. Salads, etc. and drinking tons of water. I am just afraid of fancy diets and people promising a fast weight loss system. I know you really have to exercise a lot with any diet. I think my main downfall has always been the exercising and not the dieting. I do drink 8 tall glasses of water a day. Another problem I had was over eating. I started fixing my plate, then taking half off. Then I was told to eat 6 really small meals a day. There are so many diets out there, it is hard to tell what will really work. I lost 30 pounds in two months once on a crash diet. All I ate was liquid soups. Not good for my system. I finally got back to solids and it tore up my stomach. I do not have a weight problem, so losing is easier for me. I have always been a size 8 or weighed 120. I am sure it is harder to lose a lot of weight.

Yes, Southern, I will be anxious to hear what MsRob has to say. Everyone is different, I am sure Nutrisystem works for a ton of people.....
If you feel you are ready for this Alicia, go for it.
I could not do it, cause I have to cook for John every night and we just have too much food around for him. Maybe if I was the only one with food in the house, mine, I could do it.
Alicia, there might be dieting sites on the net that can answer some of your questions about Nutrasystem too.
My problem is that I am just a nut for home cooked foods. I am obsessed with eating salads, steaming veggies and eating fresh foods. I have to realize other people are not like me.
Maybe since I quit smoking, I got a new obsession, haha.
I guess what scares me is that I cannot afford to spend another $300 on food a month when I have to buy John extra food too.
