Hi all,
I have recently discovered a web craze that seems to have quite a bit of following in the mainstream world. THis craze seems to be a doomsday sceneario (sp) type of thinking that plunges the world into economic and political disaster with the advent of a thing called "Peak Oil" I have been reading up on this phenomonea and it is quite scary.

My question to my S2K friends is simply this:

What do you all think about this type of thing. I don't know whether to give it any creedence at all or to start planning for the end of civilization.  ?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated since I really value the people on this site.

The only planning that one needs to do in preperation for the END of civilization is to read the BOOK.....the ending's GREAT :ggreen:

Your talking 20-50 years in the future? The pessimistic side of me says I'll be surprised if we last five more years. The optimistic side of me says in 20-50 years we will have alternative fuels.

1. We have alternative fuels already. The big oil firms are not allowing them to be developed. Have to watch the political here.

2. Even though I did not read through the whole thing, I saw enough to tell me that it is mostly scare tactics and not what they purport it to be. They don't even talk about the use of alternative fuels nor did I see anything about the fact that there is still a lot of untapped and/or undiscovered oil. If the US production was ramped up to what it could be we would not have to worry for many years.

I do not think we should be as dependent on oil as we are, but until our oil companies and our governmen(s)(and I am not targeting any single administration so don't go there!!) get smart and start doing what needs to be done we will be there-dependent on oil-oil form other sources an dstill needing to develop our own sources for oil and alternatives also.

The first clue to the fact this is indeed "doomsday idiots"(IMO)is that i t says "the end of the world as we know it", Not the end of the world!!!

Personally I am prepared for the end whenever it happens and that has nothing to do with oil or alternative fuels etc.

thanks for all of your input, My reactions were basically the same as yours and I wanted to dismiss the whole idea, but with recent events in the middle east and some of the mainstream media hype about oil production I just really did not know. IMHO this needs to be watched but I think that alternatives will be developed.
