Do you know what the shortest day of the year is? Well, most of you would venture to guess that today would be, since it is the first day of winter. But you would be wrong. The shortest day of the year is the day we push the clocks ahead by one hour, so there are only 23 hours in that day. That means, this year, the shortest day of the year was April 3rd. Figured I would share this information.

Yeah, even on the shortest day, we had to go to bed an hour earlier.

Thanks for the info.

And the "Longest Day" DIDN'T happen on June 6th, it happened on the day when we set our clocks back an hour.

..of course, the opposite is true in the Southern Hemisphere....cause while we are setting clocks back..they are setting clocks ahead and vice versa, plus opposite seasons and so on....

Isn't Daylight Savings Time a US thing that emerged from saving energy and staying safe during WWII?

I know Australia and New Zealand use Daylight Saving Time in their summer months....which is now...so may be false for some Southern Hemisphere places, but not false for the aforementioned southern hemisphere countries.

Actually, DST was first used in Germany. The the Brits caught on--both during WWI. It was two years afterward that the US used DST, in WWI.

Many countries, both Northern and Southern Hemisphere, observe DST.
