Well folks, it's that WONDERFUL time of the year, the Spirit of Christmas (not the HOLDIDAYS :lol: ) fills the air, the aroma of wonderful treats baking in the oven that is with the exception of ONE thing................the DREADED Fruitcake :lol: 8-)

How many here eat fruitcake? What are the many uses of a fruitcake? Doorstop maybe?

I don't think I have ever actually tasted one, everytime I have seen one, just the looks of it scare me. And I am the type of person who will usually try something once. I guess it's all those wonderful(NOT) things I have heard about it as well that detoured me. I hear if made fresh they are really not bad. The next time I see one, been a while since I have even seen one, I think I will taste it just to say I have. :D

I haven't eaten one since childhood, but I do recall that I liked it..somewhat.

I've never actually EATEN a fruitcake, but my mom, when she was working, used to get plenty of them from her coworkers when she was working at the school.

I've noticed people either love fruitcake or they don't! You are rarely in the middle.

I've never liked fruitcake and even fancy xmas cookies, especially the dry rolled round cookies, dusted with confectioners sugar. But with fruitcake, the part I find questionable is how long it has to sit. You pour liquor over it and it ages? Yikes, no way is that going in my mouth!!! Give me simple sugar or butter cookies, with sprinkles in xmas shapes. Or better yet - spritz cookies made with a cookie press - the BEST! I'll be 90 and still baking my spritz....God willing!

I love fruits, I love cake, but I don't like fruitcakes! :lol:

If you ask Larry, the Cable Guy; he could think of many uses of a Fruitcake. :roflmao:

Fruitcake? RUN! Whenever I go to the store around the non-denominational winter holiday...just kidding... Christmas, you see the shelves of it. Walk by an hour later, and the shelves are empty. Yet, majority of people claim they don't like it. I wonder if people actually do, but just say they don't because it is moderately funny. Anyways, receiving fruitcake as a Christmas present is... like a hate crime. :lol:

Uh, I think there is more than one of those on our staff!!!! :eek: :eek: :eek: Of course, I am only speaking ofr myself, like you. :oops: :oops: :oops:

And I do like some fruitcakes, but most I do not, and therefore I avoid them unless I must eat some so as not to hurt feelings.

My hubby and I both eat fruitcakes. I like the one with the most nuts in them. If they don't have enough nuts in it, I can't eat it.

I've tried a fruitcake once and I don't like the "dried" fruit that's in them. I don't mind the cake.

When I was growing up in the 1950s-60s, Christmas wasn't Christmas without a Paradise fruitcake. Since the 1980s, my husband and I have always bought Claxton fruitcake for the holidays -- mostly fruit and nuts, none of that icky citron stuff. 8-)

On the other hand, my stepmother's home-made fruitcake is so unappealing that even the ducks, fish, and turtles in our lake won't eat it.... :wink:

I have memories of Christmas, where a wealthy aunt would always give us socks and clothes - like a pack of socks and a shirt - and then proudly present the family with a really big, really cheap store-bought fruitcake as she left. Never mind that the clothes just reminded us kids that our family was on the very belly of middle-class - that fruitcake became a source of fun as we waved goodbye and then waited to see if the 'cake would be regifted or just tossed after a nibble to confirm the suspected awfulness. Don't get me wrong - we love our aunt - but kids just want toys at Christmas.

In all fairness to the fruitcake, there are some - even the cheapest that you can find - that are just rich, moist and fruity and ... good.

My aunt just stuck with the one brand, I guess!
