Where were you when JFK was shot?

#1 Postby cycloneye » Tue Nov 22, 2005 11:10 am

Today November 22,1963 it was one of the darkest days in US history when JFK was shot.

I was at school at that time when the news broke but as I went out my father told me the news.

I know that many here haved not been born at that time but there are many older ones like me who were at that time witnessing that horrible event.

The assassination had a profound effect on my generation. I was in 8th grade and at school. Our teacher was trying not to cry in front of the class as she told us. As I walked home that afternoon, traffic was lighter than usual. People at the corner store and the bus stop were sobbing and hugging each other. I remember watching television non-stop the rest of the day, as well as watching all the ceremonies in the following days. I specifically remember the lying in state in the Rotunda, the riderless horse in the funeral procession, seeing John Jr. saluting his father's casket, and watching Jack Ruby shoot Lee Harvey Oswald. To this day, I'm still not satisfied with the "official" version of the assassination, particularly considering the autopsy results.

I was in grade school, 8 at the time. The awful news was announced in class, school immediately closed. We were told to go straight home. I walked in the door and found my mom watching TV and sobbing.

Until 9/11 I didn't think I'd ever see this country brought to it's knees, weeping again. I remember so much from watching TV non-stop for 4 days: John-John saluting his father's casket, Jackie K.'s veil, Jack Ruby shooting Oswald, etc. Everyone around me was crying, people on TV were crying. There just wasn't anyone I knew who was not either crying, tearing up or just profoundly and deeply sad. As a young child, you cannot ever forget images like these. They are firmly planted in my mind, I even remember the old Muntz TV with bunny ears antenae too! The minute the second plane hit the Trade Towers, I knew deep in my gut, it would feel the same as JFK's assassination. Collectively as a nation, we were all in full agreement and very, very sad.

Wasn't born yet. My Mom said though that they shut her school down and everyone was crying. She was in high school in Manhattan. She said she cried for days.

I was in mres Sampson 2nd grade class watching the tv coverage of JFK in Dallas when we all saw what happened. I remember it very well even though I was only 7 years old at the time.

Old geezers have more and sometimes better life experiences to draw from!! Remember that!!! :D :D

I was in 7th grade and was walking into my biology class when my neighbor from across the street came running up to me screaming that Kennedy had been shot. To this day I could take you to the exact spot I was at when it happened. I too remember the details everyone has talked about above. They are etched in my mind forever. And I too have my doubts about the outcome of the investigations. A lot just doesn't seem to add up, imo. I do know that on that day the course of history, not just in the US, but on Earth was changed forever.
