Can I salvage this relationship?

#1 Postby JTD » Mon Nov 07, 2005 10:51 pm

I started an online dating relationship on October 11th and things went better than I possibly could have imagined for the first two weeks. We talked on the phone for hours and hours and really connected.

But, it fell apart as fast as you can snap your fingers because I did something stupid. I mean it wan't really that bad. It's just that I had a really stressful day on Thursday, October 28th and sent a e-mail to this person complaining about my day and how horrible it was. I think I sounded really stressed out and crazy in the e-mail and came across in a way that I am really not like in real life. Anyway, I got no response and getting no response combined with the fact that I hadn't heard from this person in 4 days combined with the fact that I had been told to expect a call Tuesday night after we talked on Monday combined with the fact that my job was really stressing me out caused me to write a silly e-mail where I said I felt kind of confused because it seemed like I was doing all the e-mailing and all the calling and was always the one initiating things (It was a calm e-mail but I think it came across as needy)

In reality, it wasn't that bad but I kind of just over-reacted. I tried to dial it back the next night and it seemed to work but then I did something stupid the next day, Saturday. I sent a 2 page e-mail trying to explain myself again (which I never should have done-I should have just let it be) and I think I freaked this person out and kind of came across as even crazier and now she is refusing to answer my e-mails and I think that her attitude of me now is that I'm some sort of psycho to stay away from when all it was was just a really really bad week that caused me to over-react to things.

I tried sending an extremely "cool" e-mail on Thursday night just hoping to kind of let her know I wasn't crazy but I got no reply so now she hates me and probably thinks I'm a psycho.

The thing is that she's gone to Scotland from now to the 19th of November. Maybe the holiday and the good mood she'll be in when she gets back will make her receptive to a phone call from me the week that she gets back (the 20th) Should I try calling her then? The thing is I don't want to repeat the same old excuses which she obviously does not accept.

Should I let things go or should I make one last attempt to fix things? The thing is I don't want to be rejected a 3rd time. I'm sure 2 weeks from now I'll feel much better than I do now and I don't want to re-open everything but I really really like this girl and I'd hate to have to let it go.

Any advice for me? It's been 10 days now since everything fell apart and I'm still really broken up about it.

I almost hate giving advice cause if it doesn't work I feel bad. But personnally I think you should let it go. I have seen things like this before and sometimes the more you try to fix it the worse it becomes. You said your peace to her and now it is up to her to decide whether or not she accepts that. When or if she is ready she will get back in touch with you. I hope things work out for you :D

I agree. You did everything you could. It's her move. If she doesn't reply, then that's it. If you keep pursuing you'll make a fool out of yourself and start seeming like a stalker.

You think this is bad, wait till after you get married!

Well, I'd say call her about a week after she comes back and act totally normal as though nothing ever happened. Maybe she was busy getting ready to go to Scotland and was a little stressed herself. She might be really relaxed after her holiday and ready to start the relationship all over again.

maybe its just me, but if she's in scotland right now maybe she just doesn't have access to a phone or computer. Just lay low for til she comes back. Or casually date til she does.

I've scarred off people doing that. :( Sometimes relationships such as these are not meant to be for some people.
