Geeeesh, I went to HE*LMART today and what has happened to THANKSGIVING!?!?! Now that Howlaween is over the Christmas BASH is ON........doesn't anyone celebrate Thanksgiving geeeeeesh?!?!

oh man i know..........my wal-mart here had christmas stuff out with the halloween stuff!!!!!!!! ugggg!!!!

Guess you have to go to Target, K-mart, etc., to see indian, pilgrim and turkey decor.

Heck out K-mart had the artificial trees out with the halloween stuff as well. Yea there isn't much Turkey day things out. Don't ever really recall seeing much in the way of Thanksgiving stuff. Halloween, then right to X-mas. Every year it seems they pull it out earlier and earlier.

Check your mailbox. There is plenty of Christmas mail to stuff a turkey with already!!

My town already has its Christmas decorations up along Main St. They went up Monday. I wanted to vomit. I much prefer Thanksgiving. By the time Christmas comes, I'm so sick of hearing about it that I cant' enjoy it.

My Wal Mart has had X-Mas goodies out since early October. We make our whole garden center full of X-mas stuff.

Also.. we all have our "Celebrate the Holidays" signage up all over the place..

See...we never have that problem up here in Canada.
Canadian Thanksgiving is 6 weeks earlier than the US one... always held second Monday of October.... I heard the reasoning behind this was that over the years, the pilgrims and farmers gave thanks for their harvest before the long winter set in, which is, being further north than the US, usually sets in before points further south. So thats why the day of Thanksgiving was celebrated so much earlier.

Anyways, the point is it being so early, Christmas never gets in the way...so right after Halloween, all bets are off and let the Christmas tidings flow.
Plus in some parts of Canada, Northern Ontario specifically, it already feels and looks like Christmas, with snow flying tonight.

Hehehe Yeah, in the future, on the week before Christmas, people will actually start taking down their Christmas trees and decorations 'cause people will become so sick of weeks and weeks of pre-Christmas stuff.

I'm serious. 10 years ago people decorated after Thanksgiving around December 1st... 5 years ago Thanksgiving(acceptable, that's when I put mine up), and now HALLOWEEN??!! The freaking neighboring city had the decorations up LAST TUESDAY(October 25th). That is just ridiclous.

Not even the city of Roanoke Rapids, NC where I lived for 15 years puts up their Christmas decor on the telephone poles until early December.

4. People that love xmax so much they decorate before Thanksgiving.

Here's how it used to be, based upon my fuzzy memory bank (which is not always reliable, warning!):

1. You began your xmas shopping the Friday after Thanksgiving. Or if you had to work that day (yours truly), you began it that following Monday. And definitely by December 1st.

2. Occasionally you had those nuts that shopped earlier, sometimes months earlier (my mom, who would put things aside in say February and forget where she stashed them).

3. People might put up outdoor xmas lights but not turn them on until the very day after Thanksgiving. If you did, you were merely testing them.

4. Indoor decorations went up as early as the day after Thanksgiving too.

5. Holiday baking began December 1st.

We're supposed to have a nice warm weekend so I'll put up my Christmas lights but not turn them on until sometime in December.

We do celebrate Thanksgiving by going to my grandpas and eat with the family. But, it is very sad now and will never be the same. My grandma died of cancer 3 years ago only 3 days before Thanksgiving. We still try to get together because that is what she would of wanted. She loved holidays and having her family all together. My grandparents have 11 children, 26 grandchildren (including my brother and I) and 14 great-grandchildren.

It is also a little depressing for me because on November 19th, 1999 a co-worker and friend of mine died in a car accident. So, I don't think holidays will ever be the same.
