It's sorta job related but sorta not..
I have finally decided, that despite gas prices and despite the potential of high insurance.. I WANT A CAR!
I'm gonna open a savings account at my bank next week and slowly build up a balance to get enough money to buy a car.
A BRAND NEW CAR. I don't want a used 1 because God knows what comes with it..
I probably won't have the $ for a car saved up till late 2006 or early 2007 but I am definitely motivated to do this..
woo hoo

Way to go John! I started driving about two years ago when I was
22!

It is AMAZING how having a personal vehicle can allow an individual to be independent.

I hope you're motivated enough to pay the ungodly insurance rates for under-25 male drivers!

Good for you John. Setting goals is something we all do. Sometimes for the day. Sometimes for the year. And sometimes even for longer time out than that.
Goals help keep our dreams alive.
I make a calendar the last week of every December. It has a list of events and also some goals for the year. Simple things mostly. But it helps a)keep me to task and b)remind me there is still plenty of things to do in this life, however small OR big they may be.
Good luck with your goal. Bet you can make it happen!!!

A USED car in my case that I recently bought...a 2000 Toyota Camry.
And heck, it's better than NO car at all!
John,
Congrats on that goal for a NEW one!

But with any vehicle whether it's new or used...they'll need maintenance...just a fact of life, Bro!

John, I think I remember you saying you had to take two buses to work. A car whether it is new or used would be great. Make sure it's good on gas!!! Good luck with your goal.

It's great to set a goal, I hope you reach it sooner than you expect. If this is your first car though I would say get a used car. Your more likely to get dinged up in those first years of driving, and it breaks your heart less to have these things happen to a used car than a brand new shiny one. That was my mom's advice to me and it worked out. I am a really good driver but did not have enough experience to always avoid others who are not so careful and my Tempo got a beating from a couple of jerks. If you are worried about the reliabity of a used car get a freind who knows cars to give it a good look over before buying. Good luck! And enjoy car shopping. Researching cars and picking the perfect one for you can be alot of fun

I got my license when I was 17. But, did not get my first car until almost 2 years ago at age 27. I always would blow my money on stupid things. But, I got so sick of not having a ride to go the places I wanted. Plus, I had a big fear of driving (lost some family members and some friends to car accidents) My parents would not let me drive their car at all. My brother got a DWI at age 18 and totaled his car. So, they decided not to trust me as well. Even though I am totally against drunk driving and I would not do that. To make a long story short, I finally quit blowing my money on stupid stuff. And managed to save over $1000 dollars in the bank. My dad finally agreed to help me out. So, he started looking for me a car. And found me one on the internet. It was located at a car dealership in Houma which is only 10 miles from where I live. We went check it out. A beautiful 1996 red Honda Civic. Only 74,000 miles on it and it did not even look used. It looked to be in perfect condition. They wanted 8,000 for it. But, my dad thought that was too high for a used car. So, he talked the guy down to $6500. I put up the $1000 I had saved up. My dad put up $2000. I had excellent credit, so he did not even have to co-sign for me. My notes are very affordable. Only $136 a month. And I only have 1 more year and it is paid off. I never been in an accident or even had a ticket, so my insurance is only $81 dollars a month. Plus, I am a woman and I am now 29 years old. So, that is not bad at all. Still never had a ticket or accidents, so I am going to knock on wood that it continues. And even with my car being nearly 10 years old, I never had any problems with it. I just keep up with oil changes and regular maintance. The air conditioner just went out last month. And I am not going to worry about getting that fixed until next Spring. Because it is almost winter now. Good luck on getting the car!
