Computer Glitch Closes Fla. Turnpike Gas Stations

POSTED: 8:02 am EDT October 27, 2005
UPDATED: 9:04 am EDT October 27, 2005

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A computer glitch has closed many gas stations along Florida's Turnpike Thursday, stranding motorists, according to Local 6 News.

"It is pretty bad right now," Local 6 traffic reporter Secily Wilson said. "We got word that servers have crashed so all gas stations on the turnpike are now shut down and cannot produce gas need for drivers."

Since Thursday morning, most service plazas between Canoe Creek in Central Florida south to Miami have been forced to turn away motorists because of the computer problem.

Officials said the Snapper Creek, Canoe Creek and West Palm Beach service stations have no fuel available to the public.

The Pompano Beach and Fort Pierce service stations still have fuel available but with a $20 limit.

The Turkey Lake, Fort Drum and Okahumpka service stations are open and have gas, according to a news release.

Officials said the problem could take several hours to fix.

Motorists are being urged to get gas at exits Thursday morning until the problem can be fixed.
